Ok,

At one point, 10bit was looking for furniture items that could also be easily stowed/stored away.
Well, seems MIT's Tangible Media Group came up with something that fits the requirements,
Printflatables : http://tangible.media.mit.edu/project/printflatables/

Could do a inflatable hut at a scale that would allow for sound dampening noisy equipment areas.

that seems at first glance to be a very good idea - that must have been explored by someone...

Add in the 3d plastic pellets and I think one can simulate bean bag style furniture.

Aeromorph & jamsheets (the opposite of inflatables) would seem to result in more compact items.
Once a sheet(s) has been made, would seem to provide an interesting way to prototype different forms.

Would be interesting to see if one could make usable portable walls / barriers / workspace cubicals/benches, which could be compactly
rolled up after use / when stored.  Or remake / re-invision wood flat pack items out of jam sheets.
