My last “Saturday at 10Bit” was published 2 weeks ago. A bunch of projects have been percolating.

There’s a group out there called ENABLE  http://enablingthefuture.org/the-knick-finger/ who 3D print prosthetics for folks in need. And another group called INMOOV http://inmoov.fr/hand-and-forarm/  who make robots.  Les is involved with Enable.  James is involved with Inmoov.  Ryan and a dude named Nick are bringing them together.  It has something to do with breakfast tacos and pulleys.

Eddie is a physical therapist.  He’s making a seat with a 5 point harness to attach to a playground swing.  It’s for kids with developmental problems.  Eddie is learning Onshape so that he can describe his ideas to others.  He’s a total rookie at computer aided drafting, CAD, but he’s as motivated as his young patients.  We’re learning these skills together on Thursday evenings.

What do you do when your lawn mower makes shrapnel out of your sprinkler valve box cover?  You shop for a replacement at Home Depot but you discover the contractor who built your house used discontinued parts from Lower Slobovia and there ain’t no such thing no more.  So you make it yourself, right?  How hard can it be?  This design was done by George H and, since it is parametric, it was easy to tweak the size.  Gramps is on the job. It’ll take 24 hours to print.

John made a hot wire foam cutter  .  CosPlay is driving the need to make foam parts.  John’s cutter a DIY version of this:

Craig’s goal is to make a humidor of fine wood.  He’s sneaking up on it by first making mock-ups in practice materials, foam board and tape, for now.  Saturday he learned enough Inkscape skills to modify a 6-sided finger jointed box (custom designed and downloaded from a website) and turn it into a 5-sided tray.  Then he actually made the tray on the little laser.  Another happy camper.
Andres used the big laser (which is up again, btw, thanks to Ken) to cut out the parts to make a set of 3D Cell Phone Virtual Reality Goggles.

David used the big laser to make a Masonite book cover with bendable spine.  It looked like this one from the Thingiverse:

Last Saturday, we had only 12 people at the space.  James and Ken went out to a place called Region 20 and did a 10Bit table at a Youth Code Jam event.  Their efforts brought in a stream of people this Saturday,  Something like 30 total.  Two of the first-time visitors were High School STEM teachers. Jenny and Brett (and soon-to-be 4 year old Toni).  We browsed the Thingiverse and Jenny went nuts when she found a 3D printable Wonder Woman accessory for a Halloween costume.  She’s hooked; she’ll be back Thursday to learn to use Gramps.

Hi Don,

How would we get involved with either of the groups Enable or Inmoov?  My son would like to volunteer.
