I was in the kitchen this afternoon looking out the backyard window at the Screecher box in an oak and noticed a head peeking out. Figured it was a flicker because I've seen them in it before... but it didn't look right. By the time I got the bins it had flown, but I thought I saw the head pattern of a kestrel and I saw one flying close to the box when I had my bins. When it came back I had my camera ready. A flicker did fly in right after the kestrel left, but the kestrel came back and ran off the flicker. And I was just thinking yesterday that I needed a kestrel box for my yard because they are pretty much a daily yard bird for me. Fortunately, I have 2 other boxes for the screechers in case they decide to nest and not just roost in them... but I'm more than OK with a kestrel nest in my yard. I'm stoked!!!

The rent is already pretty high since it is an original and exclusive Lee French design. Maybe I can get more rent if I put a plaque on it saying "Frank Lloyd Wright design"

Found this on BNA site... I missed Mr. Kestrel showing the box to the Mrs.

Male locates and inspects potential nest cavities within his established territory, then escorts female to them; female apparently makes selection and is not known to inspect cavities other than those shown to her by male ().
