If you're using Knapsack packages (headers and libraries), extract the contents as indicated in the original post [2.1][2.2]

With above libraries you can successfuly install both patron [3] and curb [4]
gems that depend on libcurl:

    C:\Users\Luis>gem install patron -- --with-opt-dir=C:\Knapsack\x86-windows
Temporarily enhancing PATH to include DevKit...
    Building native extensions with: '--with-opt-dir=C:\Knapsack\x86-windows'
    This could take a while...
    Successfully installed patron-0.4.18
    1 gem installed

    C:\Users\Luis\>gem install curb -- --with-opt-dir=C:\Knapsack\x86-windows
    Fetching: curb-0.8.5.gem (100%)
Temporarily enhancing PATH to include DevKit...
    Building native extensions with: '--with-opt-dir=C:\Knapsack\x86-windows'
    This could take a while...
    Successfully installed curb-0.8.5
    1 gem installed

Regards,
