How to setup a gem starting from an existing Rails engine

Hi, I created a Rails engine called Binda which can be found here. 

The engine is tested and has already been used on some websites via github.

I tried to create a gem on top of it but running `bundle gem binda` from the root of the engine overwrites some settings that I cannot really understand. I wonder if I can just push it as it is, rather then overriding the content which I know for sure works.
