Install pg gem with database on remote machine

Hi,

Does anybody have any detailed instructions on how to install the pg gem:

gem install pg -v '0.18.1' 

without installing postgres on the same machine?

I am trying to install the pg gem with the database on a remote machine.

I have tried searching online for examples on how to do this, but I could not find any examples.

I am using OS X and Mac Port. I already installed the Postgres 9.3 client.
