Does rhdfs Have to be Installed on Each Node on Cluster

Do R and the RHadoop components (rhdfs in this question) have to be installed on each server on the cluster? Or, can rhdfs be installed on a shared Linux server that is not part of the cluster and the package used from the shared server to execute hdfs commands?

For reference, the attached PDF shows a sample architecture. Where does rhdfs have to be installed?

only rmr2 and deps needs to be installed on every machine. For the record, rhive has nothing to do with this project.
