Dear Friend of Reynolds Field:

 

Tomorrow, Tuesday July 2nd, at 7:30, the Village Board of Trustees is meeting and will host the Board of Education in a discussion on how plans for renovating Reynolds Field will impact the village and community. The agenda says there will be a time for public comment.

 

This may be the final opportunity to tell the BoE and Trustees what you think before the BoE votes on what to include in its bond proposal.

 

Besides being ill-suited for the space, the renovations include features that will have big impact on the greater community:

1.      Synthetic turf will render the field too hot to use on hot, sunny days— making it likely too hot to host summer sports-camp or the long-standing tradition of  High School graduation ceremony on the field.

2.      Proposed fencing could eliminate winter-time sledding.

3.      Re-locating a playground to lower-Reynolds could threaten the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

4.      Field lights and security lights would contribute to light pollution in the village.

 

In addition, there are un-answered questions:

1. How will these renovations impact village infrastructure  and  draw on scarce community resources?
2. Will the Village be liable for upkeep and future expenses related to the renovations of Reynolds?
3. Questions about Reynolds Field’s status as a community resource—besides being a school facility.

I urge you to attend the Board of Trustees meeting tomorrow:

Hear what the BoE is planning, and let your own voice be heard.
