RESTFest is just four weeks away!

POST YOUR TALK PROPOSALS
"Everyone talks, everyone listens" at RESTFest. To make this work, we encourage everyone to add at least one (usually two) 5in5 talk proposals to their profile page (yes, you need a profile page!). Don't worry about details or complex descriptions, just post a title and short abstract so everyone can see what you're thinking about. I posted my first proposal here:

REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN
We have about 25 ppl signed up for RESTFest 2014 -- cool.  We usually allow for as many as 50 ppl. Feel free to promote RESTFest on your social network and w/ friends.

HACKDAY IS A BAKE-OFF on "To-Do" LISTS
Looks like hackday is shaping up to be a "bake-off" on a simple To-Dp spec:

This is still in progress and now is the time to add your ideas, comments, etc. to the page. The current plan is to "group up" onsite and spend the day implementing a client, server or both w/ your team. The spec will continue to morph throughout the next couple weeks so keep an eye on it and contribute anytime.

LODGING IS TIGHT
This year RESTFest falls on the same weekend and a handful of other events in the area. hotel rooms are tight. Be sure to lock in a room ASAP and post it here:

If you need rides or room recommendations, use the wiki and post on this list. We'll spend all day in the downtown location so you really just need to get into the city in the AM and back home safely at the end of the day.

So, there you go!  Fill in your talk proposals, get your room and travel booked, prep for the hackday and let's all have a good time in Greenville.

Cheers.

Great stuff Mike!

For lodging, I added a link to the hotel exact place. It seems there are different hotels w/ similar names, so having the hotel address or link may help. I wasn't able to book downtown so am about 7/8km away. I will be w/ car and can travel other attendees if needed.

Re:5in5, I never went to that type of conference. Not sure of the format/audience too. Will try to figure out some ideas by then.

How does the hackaton exactly works? Teams are build onsite, should ppl prep/design in advance or is the concept to design/code only on the hack day?

Thanks,
Phil

yep accuracy on the wiki lodging is a good idea.

the 5in5 is really simple. actually, you we usually leave another 5min for QnA so technically you can eat up some of that time for preso.

but, in it's simplest form, the 5in5 can be done w/ five slides:
1 - title slide
2 - here's my idea/opinion/experience/question/wish/etc
3 - here some details on my idea/....
4 - so, in conclusion...
5 - thank you slide

plan on 1-2 min per slide and your golden.

of course, you can get more detailed by adding more slides (as long as you run through them fast ;). usually an on-screen demo (like coding demo or something) is really hard to do in this short time frame, but i've seen ppl show a 1min video of an onscreen demo!

finally, if you have a lot to say, you can mark your topics for the "extended talk" (30 min). we only do a couple of these each day, but would love to see lots of folks submitting those, too.

hope this helps.
