All of the previews anywhere on my new site (either the thumbnails, or even the "full screen preview" option) are just showing broken image icons.  However, if you download the image or open a contact sheet, the images are all there and working fine.

The installation check comes back as everything OK, and most of the files are just jpgs (there are a handful of videos as well, but primarily images).  I ran pages/tools/update_previews.php to no effect.  Not seeing anything that screams out in the Apache logs - there are a couple of entries re: avi files - "deprecated pixel format used, make sure you did set range correctly", but nothing about the thousands of jpgs.

Two things that may be relevant - first, this was a recovery from a dead server.  New installation, but used the old filestore and old database (but followed the instructions for upgrading the db from a previous version).

Second, I'm on Ubuntu 14.04, so they no longer include ffmpeg anywhere in their repos.  Had to get the binaries from https://www.ffmpeg.org/download.html.

Versions are:
ResourceSpace version6.2.5428
ResourceSpace Build5428
Server platformApache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu)
PHP version5.5.9-1ubuntu4
ExifTool version9.46
FFmpeg versionffmpeg version N-63893-gc69defd
ImageMagick/GraphicsMagick versionVersion: ImageMagick 6.7.7-10 2014-03-06 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org

Any help would be appreciated!

Did the scramble key from the dead server get brought over as well (located in the config file)?

Yes, the scramble key from the old server is in the config file.  The whole config file was copied from the dead server's backup (tweaked slightly to account for some db credential changes, but other than that left intact).

Yikes - just reading that and realise it may have come across snarky (s'what I get for writing replies when I'm on hold with Microsoft...<g>).  Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and hopefully you'll find some small stupid thing I totally missed!

Hmmm...my apologies again.  I appear to have had the extent of the problem incorrect.  It's just that the collection I was looking at are all .pub files.  I went back and found some .jpg ones, and they're fine.  Now, as far as I can tell, imagemagick has never supported .pub, so I have no idea how this was supposedly working before...:-/

I believe it was likely that unoconv is how you converted .pub files before.

Fantastic - I'll check into that.  (Ah, the joys of inheriting something from someone who's no longer around...:-)  )

Thank you!

Could I ask for a favor?  Can you send any .pub files that are ok to share, so we can test them here?  It's not a format our clients have asked to support, and I'd like to pre-emptively test.  I'd be happy to share any learnings from the process of course.

Calibre may be able to handle pubs as well.

Opps! You're looking to convert ms publisher files, not epubs! Please disregard my last post...

Heh...no worries.  If you're on the west coast that was awfully early in the morning, so more than understandable.  ;-)

Jeff - I'll send one of the .pubs over in a moment...

Thanks again!  It's been a fun crash course the last few days, but I think I've got things rolling now...

Like the OP.. I've installed Trusty 14.04 on a new server and am copying our installation over... I hit the ffmpeg issue - I followed the link above and resolved it with:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jon-severinsson/ffmpeg
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg

For now Ffmpeg is backwards compatible...
