Hey,

Has anyone got their Resol DL2 setup on vbus.net?   I have seen the notation in the manual that a firmware update is required and if you bought it prior to 2013 it's 20 euro but, I have not seen any places to buy this update.  The steps to setup a datalogger, it tells you to activate the option and get an activation token.  I have searched all over the interface of my DL2 (firmware 1.4.6) and I can't find this feature or a token.  Anyone out there have any more info about how to make this work?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I have exactly same issue. I have upgraded to 1.4.6 and cannot find anywhere within the Datalogger software a reference to an Activation Token.

Help on this would be appreciated.

I tried contacting Resol in Germany and they passed me back to Secon in the UK but so far I have been unable to contact anyone in their organisation that can help.

Regards

Gordon

Just rec'd the following from Resol

Dear Mr Brown,

the DL2 firmware 1.x currently does not support VBus.net. We are preparing a firmware update (to version 2.0) that will enable the DL2 to use VBus.net functionality as well. This update is in the final stages of testing and is expected to be released end of April / beginning of March.

Best regards,

Any word from them on the 2.0 Firmware? I just discovered the VBUS.NET site and have been relying on my local device for viewing. I'm stuck on 1.4.6 firmware and cannot find my token either.

On behalf of RESOL and just in case you have not seen it before:

The firmware version 2.0 for the DL2 is released: http://www.resol.de/index/firmware/sprache/en

Please read the notes on the linked page carefully. The update to version 2.0 erases all configuration and data from the DL2. Once the DL2 is updated to version 2.0 you have no way to downgrade back to version 1.x.

If you used the RSC before to export a Designer image into your DL2 please re-export the image using a current RSC version after you updated the DL2 (needs RSC version 2.5b14 or higher, available for free from RESOL website).

If you compiled a custom template for the DL2 v1.x be warned that this template cannot be uploaded on the DL2 v2.x or higher. But you will find that generating a new "Custom View" (the new name for "Template") from the DL2's web interface in combination with the new filter functionality should be an easy task.

If you applied even more advanced modifications (perhaps using the Development Certificate and SSH access) there is a high probability that those changes will not work after the update even if you retransmit them to the device after the update. You have been warned :)

The DL2 firmware version 2.0 includes support for RESOL's VBus.net service. In terms of the DL2 support the VBus.net service is separated in two parts:

- accessing your DL2's web interface over VBus.net
- visualization of DL2's data as charts or live schemes from right within your browser

The first part (accessing the DL2's web interface) is free for every DL2 owner. It basically eliminates the need to configure and maintain a DynDNS hostname and the appropriate port-forwarding rules. To take advantage of that functionality you will have to:

- go to your DL2's web interface
  - under "Configuration" / "Remote access" / "VBus.net" enable the VBus.net option and save the settings
  - go back to "Configuration" / "Remote access"/ "VBus.net" and write down the "Access token" displayed there (a 8-character code)
- go to VBus.net
  - register a VBus.net account if you haven't already (it's free)
  - log into your VBus.net account
  - click on the "Claim a new device" link
  - enter the "Access token" you wrote down earlier
  - you are done!

Once that process is complete your DL2 is assigned a unique URL (like "http://d12345678.via.vbus.net"). Using that URL you can access your DL2's web interface and all "Custom Views" and "Filters" defined in it from anywhere in the world. You can customize the URL by clicking on the "Edit this information" link on the VBus.net list of devices.

Just in case you wondered: If you prefer to use the "old way" (DynDNS and port-forwarding) you can continue to do so of course, that still works, regardless of whether the VBus.net option is activated or not.

The second part of the VBus.net DL2 support (visualization) is free for all DL2's produced in 2013 or later. Just click on the "Edit this information" link on VBus.net and enable the visualization option there.

Owners of a DL2 produced before 2013 have the opportunity to try the visualization part for 30 days. If they would like to use it after that 30 day trial period a one-time fee of EUR 20,- will be charged. The trial period starts on first activation of the visualization option mentioned above.

If you encounter any problems feel free to contact the RESOL support staff.

We hope you enjoy that release and VBus.net!

Daniel

This is a long shot but has anyone ever added an electronic pressure switch to their system ?

I want to see when the system doesn't pressurise and I need to top it up.

Will upgrading to 2.x affect interoperability with the vbus app? I really like the app and don't want to break that. Also, is there a way to load my old data back onto the unit after upgrading?

1) Yes, the current version of the VBusTouch app is broken with DL2v2. An updated version is already in review process at Apple. But I have no ETA for that.

2) There is no automated way to restore your v1 config and / or data after upgrading to v2. In theory you could enable SSH from the Network Config section and SCP the files manually but I have not tested that before. It might go wrong horribly…

Hi Richard,

as you have probably read in the update instructions on the RESOL homepage the locations for the firmware update files differ for updating from 1.x.y -> 1.4.6 and then from 1.4.6 -> 2.x.y. Please make sure that you stored the v2 update files in the right directory.

If it still does not work could you please send a screenshot showing the directory hierarchy and the contents of the "RESOL" directory on your SD card.

Best regards,
Daniel

Daniel, Richard. I am also in the middle of the exact same situ. Trying to get from 1.4.5 to 1.4.6 and I've tried a few options with the hierarchy. Can you describe- list the folder path with some suggestions on things to avoid? Fortunately this is too important to give up on.

Hi Richard, Jessica,

to circumvent further tests with the SD card I set up a small server application that should behave like the RESOL DL2 firmware update server but actually delivers version 2.1.0 even if you still have 1.4.x on your device (the RESOL server won’t do that).

„Should behave like“ means that I have no DL2 with 1.4.6 at hand to test it…

PLEASE NOTE: The warning from the RESOL website ( http://www.resol.de/index/firmware/sprache/en ) still applies: your DL2’s data and configuration will be erased in the update process! And if the update somehow fails it might render your DL2 unusable, requiring you to send it back to RESOL for maintenance. You have been warned :)

To use that special update server, log into your DL2’s web interface, go to the „Configuration“ / „Firmware update“ page and paste the following URL there, replacing the „www.resol-dl2.de/…“ one:

See screenshot 1. Then click the „Save changes“ button. You could either wait until the automatic firmware update kicks in (which is most likely next Sunday) or you can trigger an update manually by entering the following URL into your browser’s address bar:

http://<IP of your DL2>/dl2/update/query

It should show a screen like on screenshot 2, suggesting 2.1.0 as the up-to-date firmware version and allowing you to click the „Yes, Start Firmware Update“ button to start installing that version now.

I hope that solves your problems.

Best regards (and good luck),
Daniel

Richard,
I got from 1.4.5 to 1.4.6 by changing the "auto update" button in configurations. It just turns out that update is slow. Did you set this setting? It worked apparently. Now I need to discover the 4 other controllers to which I do not have DL2 access to begin with.
Does any one know how to "Open an IP address in the browser" or have any experience with the discovery tool?

Dear Daniel

I used your links today when I installed my DL2 - I bought it from Secon solar in late 03/2013.

At that time they said:

Please see attached quotation for items requested, the DL2 data logger
can be upgraded with software to make it compatible with the Resol
vbus.net service at no extra charge for purchases made this year.

Also we have received the T28 sensor in todays post so this is being
processed by the returns dept.

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards
Administrator
Secon Solar Ltd "

So, I was surprised how hard it is to get the DL2 vbus visualisation up and running.

Managed to go from 1.4.5 to 2.1 but having trouble with the SD card and it goes "offline" quite a bit. No visulisation as vbus claims my DL2 is old!

In view of  RESOL products I have purchased in 2012 and last year (BX+, EM, and lots of sensors and central heating items) I'd appreciate access to the full vbus without extra unexpected costs.

Longer term what I'd really like to do is control the themal store stratification, wood boiler pump, solar (E/W), heat dump adn central heating, etc from my old iphone through vbus.

Hi Lukas,

your DL2 seems to be produced in late 2012 and has been on Secon’s stock until they delivered it to you. So the VBus.net application still judges your DL2 as „pre-2013“.

I’ll forward your information to RESOL’s sales team, perhaps they can clear it up…

just wanted to let you know that I reinstalled the DL2 firmware v1.4.x -> v2.1.0 update server due to popular demand.

Daniel,

I'm trying to use your update server.  When I give it the query command, it finds the server, correctly identifies the current (1.4.6) version and update version, and says it initiates and is then rebooting, but doesn't seem to go through the reboot process.  When I power cycle it, it always comes back with 1.4.6 still.

Am I doing something clearly wrong?

You don't have the 2.x update up on your webshare anymore, do you?

This online update is so much easier than the firmware update by SD card....

I think the connection errors answers the question.

Hi Daniel,

I just noticed that you shut down your DL2 v2.x update server. Too bad! The online update was rellay convenient and could be even carried out remote. I really don´t understand why RESOL doesn´t provide this service??! Can you recommend an equally convenient way to update DL2 or is there a chance that you continue sharing this useful service with us?

Thanks for providing it :-)

Hi Stefan,

I had to take down the DL2 v2 update server due to legal reasons and since they have not been sorted out the server will have to stay offline. I can currently not provide you with any alternative way to perform the update without using an SD card.

RESOL does not provide this service because updating for 1.x to 2.x will basically reset the device to factory defaults (incl. recorded data and settings). That might render the device inaccessible if it previously had a custom network configuration.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
    Daniel

Firmware update to 2.2.2

ftp to the DL2 then

                > mput firmware.bin (from the zip file on /SDCARD/RESOL/DL2/)

ssh to DL2 and

               # cd /data/srv/ftp/          (the firmware.bin has arrived here by ftp)

               # flash_eraseall -q -j /dev/mtd1

               # nandwrite -q -a -p /dev/mtd1 firmware.bin

               # reboot

Hope this helps for those like me not being able to update with the SD Card.

Cheers
