Hi refurbishers,

Someone handed me a donated older laptop and I'm trying to install TinyCore Linux on it. I burned a DVD from the ISO
and booted it to the desktop just fine.  But there is no installer icon -- and when I try typing tc-install at the terminal, I get
an error message.

Has anyone here had success installing TinyCore Linux?  It boots in 16 MB of RAM, believe it or not. I'd like to develop
skill at installing it so I can train others on how to install it on very old laptops and desktops.

I've done a lot with tiny core in the past. Mainly custom built tools to boot over a network. If the system is as old as it sounds you may need to see if the correct ATA bus driver is built into tiny core. By default it only include a very basic set of drivers and only selects items that will likely still be used by folks. Your system may not be in that category and require customizing the OS to support it.

I just read your email again and realized what the problem really is. By default Tiny core does not include tc-install. You need to add it from the repo or use the Core+ version which does include it by default. If this is all it is...great. If not...my other post is my best guess.

Thanks, Ryan.  That sounds like the solution.  I'm gonna burn a TinyCore+ disk right now and I bet that's going to get me to where I want to be.

We've been refurbishing notebooks with a slightly customized version of Xubuntu. We've chosen not to refurbish PIIIs anymore and even Pentium 4s are a bit problematic since people expect a smooth YouTube experience and P4s tend to choke on HD video.

For the past 4 years, we've been refurbishing both desktops and notebooks using a version of Linux called UberMix (www.ubermix.org).  Easy installation, easy recovery, 32 and 64 bit versions for old and new systems, lots of pre-loaded applications, and free.
