I know the rules on how to handle creature hardness has changed since it was first implemented; specifically what kind of attacks bypass it. I know adamantine can bypass it, but does energy damage bypass it as well? Can anyone clarify because I can't find the errata/clarification online.

Hardness reduces energy damage. If the target of the energy damage is an object (this includes Animated Objects) it will take half damage from energy attacks.Check the stat block to see if the enemy has the Object type then also check for hardness.
