Catch up at eResearch? Evening of Thursday 30th?

Hi all,

It's a pity there's no formal ReDBOX session at eResearch Australasia, but I think it would be worth getting the community together to discuss the project and its future, since a lot of us will be in Melbourne, how would the evening of Thursday 30th October be? We may have to just go to a pub, but we could ask the organisers about the possibility of getting  a room. 

I'd really like to talk about the vision for RB, and see if it is possible to extend its use into being a data repository, which was one of the original aims of the project, and the underlying Fascinator code base: to be a generic digital repository solution which might be useful for working data repositories amongst other thing. I'm sure others will have opinions and wish-lists too.

 

Perhaps if the QCIF team could share their current vision beforehand that would help us understand the current trajectory.

Hi Peter,

QCIF were planning to provide an update on the current state of things at the annual ReDBox Support Meeting.  We had hoped to have held the meeting by now but it looks as though it will be soon after eResearch Australasia.  I will be attending the conference, so am happy to provide an informal update on what I know to the group.   We might also be able to link in Andrew Brazatti via video technology permitting if it was held a bit earlier.

Hi all,

I'm currently working through some release notes for the upcoming 1.8 release of ReDBox so that everyone is aware of what will be in it and be able to adequately prepare. Ideally if some of you have resources available to help with some pre-release testing that would be wonderful as well.

Along with the release notes, I will also outline the technical vision we have previously discussed and propose a release plan that will allow us to achieve it over coming 2 or 3 versions. I should be able to have this available by the end of this week/early next week.

Hi Peter / all,

I am keen to attend as well. If we get to discuss extension of use to ReDBox-as-data-repository, it would be helpful to hear about potential advantages (/disadvantages) of doing this over implementing alternatives that are currently being developed (such as Sidora at the Smithsonian Institute).
