Hello All,

we are using red5 for a long time and its getting better with every new release! Thanks for that :)

Do you plan to add WebRTC support to red5 server? (or maybe it works already :) ) Would be great feature!

We would like to add it at some point and a first step in that direction was the addition of the WebSocket plugin, which provides the signaling channel.

Great news!

Do you have any roadmap for this feature?

+1000 for Red5 handling WebRTC video streams. It could be used for:
  • fallback for p2p WebRTC connections that can't go through
  • broadcasts
  • group video chat
  • recording

OpenTok's Mantis does the same thing but it's private:

Hi Mondain (and the rest of the Red5 guys),

Just wanted to check in and see where you guys are actually at with WebRTC.

We've got a project in development which uses OpenTok but their system seems really shonky and they've cut their release cycles right back.

So, we're looking to build out our own system based on Red5 - we have years of experience with it.

But...want to check where you're at with the WebRTC stuff - any ideas of timescales, % of completion so far etc?

Maybe we could help out too finishing it off?

Thanks,
Dave.

As far as the open source implementation of WebRTC in Red5 goes, we are just in the conceptualization phase and I can't personally say when we will actually release a usable product. In the corporate world, there is one implementation that I know of due to my having developed it; I cannot speak about any other versions out there. Time will tell whether project X gets an open source treatment.
