Does anyone know how many (if any) shark attacks there are
per year on windsurfers in the San Francisco Bay?
And where do they occur? Any in the shallower parts, like
Berkeley Marina or Candlestick?
Let us know!

Sharks are frequently attacked by windsurfers in the
San Francisco Bay. Bay sharks are small and easily
wounded or killed by the new generation of blade
fins. The high speed of a surfboard is something
evolution did not prepare them for. For this reason
they are on the verge of extinction. Windsurfers,
a rather selfish group of people who only worry
about their own amusement, have never considered
the environmental impact of blade fins. We appeal
to your concern for the diversity of life and ask
you to send a donation to:

Society for the Preservation of Bay Sharks
646 Santa Fe Ave
Albany, CA 94706

The proceeds will be used to rent buses who will
carry windsurfers from Bay locations to the Pacific
coast, where they will be taken care of by the
Bay sharks' larger cousins.

Sharks attack about once a week at Coyote Point so I sure wouldn't sail
there or 3rd Ave which is close. You are safest to sail at Shoreline
or other inland lakes. As a service to this group, I will volunteer
to continue sailing Coyote and 3rd so I can monitor the attacks and
report on them here. What a guy, eh?

Shark attacks are a daily occurence in SF Bay area, particularly at 3rd Ave,
Coyote and Sherman Island. I, however, have a shark-repelling wetsuit. So
even if you happen to see me out on the water, don't assume that it's safe
for you to enter. As Kirk says, you probably want to stick to the inland
areas, like Shoreline.

Oh Trevor, I know what your saying. I see fins at Sherman almost every time
I sail there. I bought a faster board, and I'm up to 100% jibes. So far so,
good.

Sorry Gene, you may have a fast board and are good on jibes, but it's all for
nothing. You see, those fins you see at Sherman Island are me. My new board
allows me to sail upside-down, just a quirk of my new no-nose, no-tail,
high performance glass board. Custom built by Poseidon out at the Gorge.
Remember: InverseAqua, the new custom boards that scare Hell out of the
shark folk. Ask for it by name!
