Are there any cruise ships without casinos, or specific ocean cruises on
which the casino doesn't operate? We'd like to take a family member on
a cruise with us, but this person is a compulsive gambler (mostly slot
machines), and having an casino to him/her would really destroy the
experience for all of us.

Go disney, bill--they have no casino, no midnight buffet, and no full week
cruises, but hey! no casino.

American Hawaii did not have a casino on the Constitution and I assume that the
Independence is the same. Probably something to do with the fact that they
spend so much time in US waters.

Bill,

Delta Queen is another option, although they do stop in areas with casinos (but
then so do most cruise ships).

Hi Bill,

Windjammer, Alaska Sightseeing Cruise West, American Hawaii, Delta
Steamship, Disney, & American Paddlewheel are cruise lines that do not
offer any casinos

Yvonne's reference to Disney Magic was right on!

You could consider Canadian Empress, a small (68 passenger) ship sailing
the upper St. Lawrence River but it's not likely what you have in mind.

Might want to consider a 7-night cruise to Bermuda. The slots would be
available the first two and the last two nights but would be closed
while the ship was in Bermuda - on a Saturday sailing typically noon
Monday to about 3:30PM Thursday (depending on vessel's speed).

Good Luck

Yes, Hapag-Lloyd's 420-passenger COLUMBUS, now cruising on the Great Lakes
until October does not have a casino. There are a few other ships like that as
well.

Hi Bill - if you are looking for an interesting Alaska cruise, without the
casino and with more classical type entertainment, you might want to check
out World Explorer.

http://www.wecruise.com/

My friends tell me it also less formal than most cruise lines on the Alaska
route, most cruises are 14 days. There is less of the deck type activities
and more of information on the local peoples and geography.

Hi Bill

Also there is a cruise line called Clipper (http://www.clippercruise.com)
advertising non-Las Vegas type entertainment and atmosphere.

Try World Explorer Cruises. They have a 16000volume library where the casino
used to be. 14-day Alaska and Latin America cruises. Summer season is May
to September. Latin America is end of December to Feb. Other months ship is
used as a college ship. No Latin America cruise in '98/99 but there will be
a millenium cruise in 99/2000.

I don't believe any of the Disney cruise ships have a casino. At least,
they didn't when they first started out. That may've changed, I
wouldn't know.

Wow I didn't think there'd be any casino in cruises back then but I found out there is. Why not when they can also make money from it. Haha.

Maybe I should research that next.

The major exception to the big ship rule is Disney Cruise Line, which does not have a casino on any of its four cruise ships. Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America also does not have a casino. Most expedition ships and river boats do not have casinos.

Seems to me right now it's worth choosing a cruise by price and by the beautiful places you can visit. There are a lot of budget cruises to different places, but I would personally recommend canary island cruises. It's a great option for both your first cruise and your next cruise because it's really beautiful there!
