how should I mail waterski's?

I need to mail some waterski's, a combo pair and a Slalom (in separate
boxes). I know the post office wont take them, how about UPS? Has anyone
here done this, if so how did you mail it, and how much did it cost? where
did you get the box?

You can get boxes at any waterski dealer. They are happy to get rid of
them. I like to use USPS Priority Mail. The cost for one ski is about
$10-$15 in the USA. UPS is slow and they damaged the last wakeboard I got.

We recently shipped skis on a couple of different occasions--via US
Mail. You can get boxes from waterski dealers--we've also used a
snow-ski box from the local snow-ski dealer. Cost to mail was just
over $20 each time (my wife probably insured them).

When we did not have a box handy, we took medium UHaul box and broke
it open, wrapped the ski with a bunch of newspaper and then wrapped
this with the cardboard from the box. It worked better than you might
expect and provided a secure and well padded means for shipping.

I ship large, ungainly things all over the world, and any courier
company will take them for a reasonable cost. We use DHL.

One VERY important thing:

Package them so that they can be kicked, dropped, thrown, stepped on
and have other heavier things piled on top of them without getting
damaged, because all those things WILL happen.

buy I went to the post office and asked, they said they wouldn't mail them,
did the dude just have no idea what he was talking about? my first choice
would be usps.

I shipped wakeboards by the post office. About half the price of UPS,
because of the length. My guess is that skis would be the same, because of
the length. Insure them, and make sure that the tip is protected. Take off
the fin if you can. I used a bunch of boxes, and cut them down, and packed
with bubble wrap and noodles. No problem. Took 2 days to go from NJ to
Texas.

thinking of doing, the post office accepts that?
