NY knew they didn't have enough ventilators for a pandemic and now blame Pres Trump

Cuomo has been very vocal about his need for ventilators and PPE, asking others (presumably Pres Trump) to decide WHO will DIE because they don't have enough ventilators. Well, NY made the CONSCIOUS decision to NOT have sufficient ventilators for a pandemic. That decision was put in writing in a document called "VENTILATOR ALLOCATION GUIDELINES" released in 2015 (https://www.health.ny.gov/regulations/task_force/reports_publications/docs/ventilator_guidelines.pdf). The particular section covering this issue is on page 35:

E. Stockpiling Ventilators

New York State pandemic planning includes careful consideration of the potential shortage of ventilators, based on the estimates discussed above. There is a federal government stockpile of ventilators, but its use is limited for any one locality; there are not enough ventilators to be distributed to meet demand if many regions need them at once. New York State has stockpiled 1,750 ventilators to help reduce ventilator need in the face of the moderate scenario; however, there are no current plans to buy enough ventilators for
the most severe model. The State’s current approach to stockpiling a limited number of ventilators balances the need to prepare for a potential pandemic against the need to maintain adequate funding for current and ongoing health care expenses. Furthermore, severe staffing shortages are anticipated, and purchasing additional ventilators beyond a threshold will not save additional lives, because there will not be a sufficient number of trained staff to operate them. In the event of an overwhelming burden on the health care system, New York will not have sufficient ventilators to meet critical care needs despite its emergency stockpile. If the most severe forecast becomes a reality, New York State and the rest of the country will need to allocate ventilators and other scarce resources.

They KNEW that there weren't sufficient ventilators to handle a pandemic and ROLLED THE DICE that it would not happen. And, if it DID happen, well then TOO FUCKING BAD, PEOPLE WILL DIE!

FEMA's responsible to handle the national stockpile, but they allowed their maintenance
contract lapse last year ... yes, 2019, so on Trump's watch; can't blame Obama.

That's why NY has 2,000 unusable Federal ventilators.

Not quite - go read what you wrote:

And took responsibility by clearly documenting their decision. That's very much
the opposite of "No, I didn't do that!" Trump, who denied that he abolished the
responsible Federal pandemic planning & response office.

> And, if it DID happen, well then TOO FUCKING BAD, PEOPLE WILL DIE!

Such as in Georgia, where their Governor today admitted that he didn't
realize that the news (except apparently on FOX) has been blasting for
the entire past month that CoVid19 also spreads from asymptomatic carriers.

Well ... better go throw them some paper towels. /s

No Lyin' Hughie, Cuomo IS NOT taking "responsibility" - he is attempting to blame Pres Trump with the lefty media's help. You should watch his news conferences - I did.

The difference between Cuomo’s news conferences and Trump’s are
profound and utterly embarrassing to Trump and his Administration.

And Jarrod just lied about the Fed Stockpile and his cronies changed
the charter on the Fed website to cover for him. That’s criminal fraud.

As soon as Trump officially declared a State to be a National Emergency
(NY, NJ and many others already have been), that’s a legal recognition
that no matter he level of local preparations, the Fed will provide aid.
To now try to dodge from that is a leadership failure at the Fed level.

Regional hospitals are already diverting because of ICU capacity.

EMTs have received new written directions for who to not try to save.

One very local Ambulance Squad has shut down operations because
of staff shortages - too many out sick with COVID19 to operate.

But Trump’s political read is to hoard Fed resources for Red States who did
nothing as this spread - Florida beaches remaining open; a GA governor
who claimed he didn’t know it was infectious; Marci Gras, TX, etc...because
he can then 11th hour “play the hero”.

Well, fuck those tax leech states who always bitch about “big government”:
this is their time to put their convictions to the test by refusing Federal aid
and letting their citizens die, rather than be a liar and hypocrite.

And crassly letting NYC crash - the Stock Market economic hub - will mean
that ALL the USA is going to be in a deep depression for the rest of your
pitiful life. Expect April’s unemployment to hit 10% ... and May ~15%.

Go ahead, try to prove me wrong.

It's not my job to find the things you claim exist, Snowflake.

And when you say something like this, we both know it's your way of
admitting you can't quote them...

...because they don't exist.

My "pitiful life?" It's very possible that I will outlive YOUR overweight, couch-potato existence. First off, I get daily exercise. Secondly, I do not live in a disease-prone part of the country. Third, I don't blame mindless politicians for what happens in my life - I take FULL responsibility for that. Fourth, I PREPARE for these events - unlike you. Finally, I have the genetics for a long, productive life. Here's a simple test for you: go up to total strangers and have them guess your age. I have, and they all think I am 5-10 years younger than I am.

No, it was Cuomo who LIED about the number of ventilators he would need. And de Blasio AUCTIONED off ventilators that the city had acquired for just this purpose, but became too expensive (in his small mind) to maintain ($100k per year!):

These guys have their fingerprints all over this disastrous pandemic response.

Pitiful, isn't it?

It did get me wondering a bit about what recent pics I have online.
Here's one, which isn't really all that helpful:

Too bad that pic above was me out on a walking game drive while carrying
nearly 20lbs of camera gear.

Merely in a State with a deficiency in nursing home care.

Except for the blame that Tom does, a few more lines lower down.

Tom's again trying to make it about him with baseless insinuations.

Looks can be deceiving, as it often does basically nothing to identify lifespan
shortening factors, such as diabetes, heart disease, prostate cancer, etc.

Because Tom made an unsubstantiated claim (while trying to blame a politician).

In 2006, he was just a city councillor, Snowflake.

So he didn't have the authority to auction them at that time.

YA example of Tom surrendering via his own metric which is where one

And invariably, not done within the last five years either.

Plus recreational backpacking moved away from carrying massive loads like this
well over 30 years ago. The only people who carry loads like that anymore are
the military and people doing 'porter' carries, such as the staff who support the
winter caretaker at Mt. LeConte - - and its "winter" because in season, the lodge
gets resupplied by pack animals (they're currently using llamas):

Facts don't matter when Tom's trying to pull a 'guilty by association' gambit.
By his logic, Tom is personally responsible for the Stock Market crash. /s

Oh, and to preempt Tommy from whining about my generalized statement on pack weight:

"The average base weight for section hikers was 22 lbs., while the thru-hiker average
base weight was 19 lbs."

<https://thetrek.co/appalachian-trail/the-top-backpacks-on-the-appalachian-trail-2016-at-thru-hiker-survey/>

FYI, base weight excludes food & water, but figure 3L gallon of water and half again
for mass for food and you're at +9lbs more, so roughly 30lbs. To get to 100lbs, Tommy's
got a lot of explaining to do for the other 70lbs he was supposedly carrying - - that's
the equivalent of adding two full sets of golf clubs!

de Blasio was an elected official and had his fingerprints on that auction. Furthermore, he KNEW the city disposed of equipment that they demanded from the Feds. This will all come out in the post-action analysis.

The rest of your drivel is undeserving of a response.

Sorry, but I'm not who made the claim, still written above:

" I have back-packed …"

So...how much was the pack and how much was rope & hardware?

And just which huge mountain took you an entire week to climb?

An AL80 scuba tank on its own weighs 32lbs … empty.

Put air/mix in it (+6lbs), add scuba regulator, BCD, mask/fins,
thermal protection, lead weightbelt (8-30lbs), UW camera(s)
and its easily approaching ~70lbs (tropical) to ~90lbs (coldwater).

But that's just for a single tank without redundancy and I have
also dived with multiple tank setups to have redundancy...

In the meantime, I forgot to mention that I ordered a new backpack last Saturday.

Its a MindShift "BackLight® 26L", which I'm hoping will be an alternative to
the Osprey that I've been using for photography hike-ins. The opportunity
I see for it is to potentially carry my monster telephoto in it, even if just as an
airline carry-on: the K-gear backpack I have for the monster is rugged, but
its IMO lacking in its optional backpack straps, particularly for load stability.

I'm betting.... ....not.

The ventilators didn't come from the federal government, Snowflake.

'The city’s department of health, working with the state, was to begin
purchasing ventilators...'

You should read your own cites, Snowflake.

Meaning you can't even attempt to refute it.

Indeed .. but it doesn't really matter, because by replying, Tom has eliminated all
plausible deniability that he missed seeing the post which proved him wrong.

Well, you did say:
“I doubt that you could even put HALF that weight on your back!!”

Debunked when you read that that’s the weight of my dive gear.
That’s why you tried to move the goal posts.

Meantime, you’ve not identified what “mountain” was supposedly
climbed, nor how many decades ago, if it was a technical climb or
a hike, etc...let alone provided a pic...gosh, how convenient!

BTW, my new backpack arrived today; did a quick check and verified
that it does indeed fit the big lens (~120mm OD hood)...should work
out for what I want it to do. Need a pic?

Hey Lyin' Hughie, your FAT ASS wouldn't make it thru the territory we covered with NOTHING on your frail back! Google "Canadian Rockies" and you will find some truly IMPRESSIVE mountains.

BTW, I climbed Monkey Face while in college - look it up, wimp.

Indeed, because I've not only hiked in the Canadian Rockies,
but also the Swiss Alps, Peruvian Andes, etc... Case in point:

Did they even have cameras that many years ago?

In any event, searching for "Monkey Face" in the Canadian Rockies,
this is about all I found … pretty vague:

<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lik3W67xiQM>

But I did find the following two in the USA. First one
fits the "Monkey Face" search term whereas the second is
more of a 'Monkey Rock' with a face - I included the second
because the first hike is just barely over a mile:

<https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/monkey-face-loop>

<http://moosehikes.com/2016/06/27/monkey-rock-and-hidden-beach/>

Hopefully, Tom will tell us what we are supposed to be so
impressed by him doing while he was in college 50 years ago,
even if its just a "stupid stuff I survived when I was a lad".
