Would a return bow be too much to ask?

Have you never noticed that, when two dogs meet, the inferior always
tucks the tail and sorta humps up in submission.
Hopefully that explains it fully.

It is a sign of respect to bow. The superior often does not bow to
their inferior.
That alone should make Americans angry that Obama keeps doing this.

Angry??? I expect him to bow.
Hugh
If this is the kind of stuff you guys think of as important for world
relations then we should just give up being the USA now.
Really? So you and your ilk weren't serious when you complained about
how Bush was "making us look" to the rest of the world?
Diplomacy is ALL about perception, and Obama's actions completely take
away any upper hand the US may have had. Ridiculous that you don't
recognize that.
Brent
It's ridiculous that yinz are focusing on a bow and now you're
comparing that to Bush's diplomacy. It's actually pretty funny.
It's grasping for straws and rather pathetic.
I think you truly don't understand diplomacy and the importance of it
to dismiss so casually something that means a great deal to Asian
culture.
If you want to call it pathetic, that's fine, but allow me to readily
dismiss what you have to say about diplomacy given that your
credibility on the topic is greatly diminished.
Brent
>It's ridiculous that yinz are focusing on a bow and now you're

I agree. Bush was fine, it's obama that is pitiful. I'm amazed that
you admitted it.
Hugh
I say the same about your credibility. Obama thankfully is repairing
the years of damage caused by Bush.
Obama is repairing the damage.
Fair enough, I didn't figure we would agree on anything other than to
disagree.
Just one little thing. The US is hated because they are successful.
I know a lot of people thought they were hated for much more than
that, but that's about all there is to it.
Also a question for you. What president was responsible for the
largest efforts for outreach to Africa?
Brent
Some Scandinavian countries have a much higher standard of living
and much better medical and educational systems than the US. Why
doesn't anyone hate them?
s
No scandanavian countries have much higher standard of living. Now
Switzerland? Yes, and I don't know that other countries don't hate
switzerland, I just know that we don't.
Brent
US interests are what matters and being "loved" or "hated" is less
important. We need to trade with Russia and China. They have
problems that we need to call them out on (human rights, intellectual
property, etc) and guess what? Obama is doing that. However if you
have NO relationship with them you get NOwhere. Just being "tough"
and "sticking to our corner" only hurts US interests.
> Also a question for you. What president was responsible for the

Which of the many African countries are you referring to? Is this
going to be "Palin-esque"?
Botswana, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guyana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia,
Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
15 billion dollars from 2003-2008.
And probably most importantly, visibility.
Tell me you knew that. Please.
Brent
You should do some research instead of wheezing
out your backside, Brent. You sound like a clueless
freshman who's never been out of his hometown.
s
OK. That's good. Now getting back to my point, how are our African
trading partners helping the US economy?

GMAFB! This is complete nonsense. It makes as much sense as "They hate
us for our freedoms." Just like the other simplistic pap that comes out
of some mindless right wing crackpot like Neil Boortz or Michael Savage
or whoever.

there?
Do you not remember Bono apologizing for refusing to shake hands with
Bush and acknowledging that the Bush administration had done more for
Africa than any previous administration, including Clinton?
I guess not.
Brent
They don't hate us for our freedoms. They might hate us for taking
that freedom for granted though.

Is it any more mindless than dismissing it out of hand because you
disagree with it?
If you don't get that people tend to resent others for success, you
don't know much about human nature, and you sure as heck aren't paying
attention.
The class warfare business in this country is based off of what?
Get a clue.
Brent
How is that? What has he repaired?

Don't turn this thread into a resume of Africa when I was talking
about economic interaction with trading partners that have a huge
impact on our economy. That is a total diversion and presumably a
surrender flag.

Yep, it's that simple all right. Uh-huh.

If obama is repairing his own damage that's great. Glad to hear that
he won't veto the repeal of obamacare.
Hugh
First off, you're setting up a strawman. The US is not "hated" any more
than any other place. And if you're referring specifically to people
like Al Qaeda and/or some of the muslim fundies, they hate us not
because we're successful but because we don't conform to what they
consider to be their rules that they think all people should live by.

Jealousy and even resentment are a long way off from hate.

Another strawman. Get a grip; this is the US of A - I don't see any
revolutions.

They also have issues with colonization, but shouldn't they
be thankful that we make them into Americans, the best
country in the world! (And in debt up to our ears to China.)
s
First off, Africa doesn't need to be a trade partner to be important
economically. China is already proving that. If you don't understand
the important resources Africa has, that says more about your
ignorance on Africa than anything. Furthermore, those that establish
the infrastructure there and become allies first stand to gain in a
very big way as their countries progress. That's called vision.
What *you* think is important, is short-term gains that are bound to
fail. What does China need from the US? Only our consumers. We use
up too many of our own resources to export much of anything. Obama
signed a deal, great! What are they going to buy from us?
I'm trying to figure out economically exactly what it is that China
and Russia bring to the table that you think is so important to our
economy?
And my insistence on continuing the Africa discussion was two-fold.
One to drive the point home that you didn't know what you were talking
about, and two to point out our economic future is better pursued
there than with China or Russia.

Oh, brother. That's as stupid as the uber-right's "They hate us because of our
freedom."

Here's a little hint. You might want to read the whole thread so you
don't put a redundant response in there.
Instead of just the glib response, why don't you and others go ahead
and throw out what it is you think the US is hated for. Then, I'll go
ahead and show you the polls that show it is because of the wealth
(success) or some derivative thereof (arrogance, throwing money around
etc).
Brent
Or not. Apparently, for some reason, they just don't go that in-depth
on the world-view polls, I'll see if I can get it another way.

One, I did read the thread and didn't see the reponse to which you refer.
Two, when I need posting behavior tips from the likes of you, I'll AFO&U.

So your saying that economic donations to Africa are
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> US relations with Russia

It won't make it to his desk. and shouldn't.
And yet you are still here. I guess your threat is empty.

Nope, not at all... think about it. Try hard.

You may be right. I think enough states will declare it
unconstitutional that there will be no need. The states are lining up.
Hugh
Until then you'll just have to keep spouting off into the darkness.
>Until then you'll just have to keep spouting off into the darkness.
Based on the results of the last election and the growing opposition
to obamacare and the welfare bums who support him it appears to be
working better than expected.
Shedding a little light into the darkness never hurt although you
appear to be too much in the dark to be affected so far.
