Side note: I had a "Blockbuster Rewards" card that expired on April
30. It's an annual deal that costs $15 and gives some special
deals. Generally, it's a pretty good deal. However, if the store
closes 5 days later, it's not such a good deal. Still, that didn't
keep them from asking if I wanted to renew every time I was in there
in April. Even if the locals didn't know, the corporate dudes who run
the computer system did. Fortunately, I wasn't planning to renew
anyway.

yes they are downsizing big time...

I read a few days ago that an analyst expected Blockbuster to no
longer exist in its brick-and-mortar form by 2013 - he thought it'd be
impossible for them to survive that long. I read that in a newspaper
which (in paper form) will probably follow Blockbuster into the
graveyard soon thereafter.
Our local Chain store is closing as well. Not Blockbuster, but
another chain.
and Sears -
Sears and Honda, in flaming wreckage.
Hollywood Video?
Did the Comcast-NBC deal fall through?
In all honesty, I thought they were already out of business. The two
stores we had around here closed a while back, and I haven't seen
advertising out of them in a long time.

You can avoid Sears though, and there's enough other places (Target,
specialty stores that you don't have to deal with them).
At one time Blockbuster was all for videos. In many places Comcast is
it for cable/internet. They really do suck, thank god for the
information age, I think in future companies with chronic and
intentionally negligent customer service will not survive.
"chronic and intentionally negligent customer service" -- that's how
I'm finding Honda these days.

Thing is I never step into a dealership other than to test drive a car
which is rather infrequent.
You keep dealing with the dealership?
IIRC, they filed bankruptcy a little while back and closed a ton of
stores and started to think of how to "reinvent themselves." I read
some "new big cool idea" that Blockbuster was going to pioneer. I
forget what that was and haven't heard about it since.
I think the few stores left closing can be taken as the Death Rattle
of Blockbuster. Thank Gwad.

Are there car dealers where that isn't true? In all honesty, I seldom
ever walk back into a dealership after I buy a car, so I don't care
much about customer service from them. All I care about is that they
build a car that I don't have to go see them again.

Or Movie Gallery?
the chains are probably dead - what'll survive are boutique shops like
Bongo Video here in Madison.
in my case with Honda it started at the dealer and went right on
through to the corporate level when I elevated my issues.
HV and MG are the same company along with one of the game places

Agreed. Too much comp from Netflix, On Demand, and the Red Box
thingees.

And just wait until we ever get real streaming video on demand
I did redbox for the first time last week......I was kinda hesitant
because I always was afraid they would somehow "rip me off" and
instead of $1 on my cc statement it would be a bunch of nonsense
fees.....but sure enough after I returned it the statement read
$1........that's even a good bit cheaper than the lowest netflix
package if you only watch movies once every 4-5 days....
Im definately going to do it again.
Our local Honda dealer RAWKS. Love them.
Peach
Yep. I couldnt think of the name...havent been in there in several
years.
I was having the local Chevy dealer service my new pickup, even though
I didnt buy it there, just for extra warranty caution. And they were
only $4 more for service. Now they lost their dealership with the big
push last year. Haven't changed yet, but...

Broad, and not just Blockbuster - a couple of Hollywood Videos near
where I live are closing as well. I have a feeling it was just a
matter of time after the studios decided, "We don't need to charge $80
for a video for the first few months so only rental stores will have
them."

I got HD movies on demand from my cable provider for $4.99 for new releases
and you get the "rental" for up to 7 days, even if you do not have a pvr.
How do you rent blue-ray movies from a streaming service???

A side note: The studios are pretty pissed at Redbox and actively
trying to cut them out. Apparently Redbox employees buy at retail
stores like Walmarts and Target and so the studios can't really tell
them what to charge and what rental windows to have.

Sorry you're having problems with your car. Our family has bought at
least a dozen Hondas and they've all been epically reliable and fun to
drive. I'll be buying another one when it's time, without a doubt.

Our family has had the same "luck" with Hondas. It's all my mom has
owned, and I have my first one....I bought it new in 2006 and it has
50,000 miles on it. No problems *ever.*
Peach
I'm starting to believe I got a Monday Morning/Friday Afternoon one.
That would suck...I know it *does* happen, though. I keep thinking my
next car will be a Honda, too, once I give this one to my
daughter...or an Acura, which is really the same thing. :) I have a
year or so to decide.....
Peach
I'm so fed up with the do-nothing lip-service I've gotten that I'll
never get another Honda
Go Acura. I've got two, and they are great cars. Plus the dealer service is
spectacular (any issue is taken care of immediately, no questions asked.
They do not want you complaining to corporate about anything.)
T
I'm thinking MDX...... :)
Peach
That's one of ours. We have an MDX and a TL.

Well, Blockbuster is gone--sold out (except for a small collection of
movies I'd never even heard of) in 3 weeks. And now Hollywood and
Movie Gallery are starting their sell off. The local independent
store and Redbox are now the only local video places.
Blockbuster started their sale with all videos at $6, then went $4,
$2, $1 over a three week period. HW and MG are starting their sale at
20% off -- of the regular price. So bad used movies are costing $8.
I'm thinking they may take a tad longer to sell off--especially right
on the heels of BB's big sale.
