This bout was Duane Bobick's first step up in class. He squares off against an
in shape Norton who lands all sorts of punches quickly an has Bobick in all
sorts of trouble and send him reeling to the canvass in the first. Duane is
clealy out of it and the ref does a good job in stopping this obut. It all
took place in all of 58 seconds. It is somewhat rare footage. If you want a
copy send me an email. Pat s...@widomaker.com

Thanks for the offer but no thanks. It would be just too painful to watch that
again. A lot of people really wanted to believe that Bobick was a soon to be
white HW champ. He was 38-0 before Norton and after all, was a superb amateur. He
beat Larry Holmes at the Olympic trials and although Bobick did lose to Cuba's
Stevenson, he had beaten the Cuban fighter easily the year before at the Pan-Am
Games. I believe Norton-Bobick was 1977. The fight started and I ran out to the
kitchen to make a quick sandwich and grab a beer. By the time I got back to the TV
the fight was already over. IMO that was the end of Bobick's career as a pro. He
fought on but was later KO'd by Kallie Knoetze and then Big John Tate. Seemed that
every time he got on the TV he'd get KO'd. Saturday Night Live then did a spoof on
the Norton-Bobick bout. They showed all 58 seconds of the bout but made the
narration a comedy comercial for the NAACP. I remember it being quite funny.

They also led off the show with a replay. There was a narration that stated
that the fight must be replayed a certain number of times due to the fight
leaving NBC in a lurch due to having committed 2 Friday night prime time hours
to a fight that lasted 58 seconds.
