Apparently, Lakemont Park will be closed this summer season for renovations, reopening for the Christmas event this November. So no Leap the Dips

I don't like the sound of this.

Worrying. Very worrying. I was very pleased with my last visit to Lakemont in
2014, and would be very sorry to see it go away (or turn into something
lesser).

Sounds like the only things staying are Leap The Dips, Skyliner, train and antique cars.

What is still there anyway? It's been forever since I've been there... last time I was there they still had the Mouse and the Toboggan.

Wow, I can't believe that Toboggan is still kicking. Those have just disappeared. Can't be more than 1 or 2 others operating anywhere.

Wow...I am shocked. I did not see this one coming.

My guess is that the expansion and apparent success of DelGrosso's is probably having a negative effect on attendance at Lakemont???

I'm sure that's a big part of it. The park, last time I was there, looked awful. Losing some of the flat rides (including the last Chance Twister) sucks, but I'd rather lose that than LTD or Skyliner.

It doesn't seem to have a lot of local support. Years ago (sometime after LTD reopened), I stopped in the area to go to both Lakemont and Delgrossos. When we checked into the hotel, the person at the front desk asked why we came to PA, and told her to go to amusement parks. She then told us to make sure we only go to Delgrossos and not to go to Lakemont. I didn't want to get into a big discussion, so I didn't tell her the main reason for this stop was for lakemont rather than Delgrossos (Delgrossos is nice, but the historical significance of Lakemont obviously makes that the most important part of a stop to that immediate area). I was just shocked that she would actually tell us directly to not go there.

That surprises me as well.

They seem to do well on their $5 days and it seems that those are about the only days they had the last time I was there. The thing that sucks about that price is the fact that oftentimes I have stopped by, just to walk in (for free) and go to LTD to pay for a few rides (not included in the POP anyway). Now, it almost always seems like I have to pay $5 to get in and then pay for LTD...PLUS the lines are longer on $5 days.

I know there's at least a couple in Europe that are running on the fair circuit, but here in the US you've got two that I know of definitely still running: Little A-Merrick-A's and Skerbeck's that tours in the upper midwest. A-1 Midway was travelling with one also (might have been the Grand Prix Amusements Toboggan from Winnipeg, not sure) for a little while but it isn't on their website anymore (A) and you'd have to travel to places like Whitehorse, YT or Fairbanks, AK to ride it (B).

I am glad they are still around and I have my credit on the one at Lakemont, but past that...I will probably never ride one again.

There are a bunch in China, and some of them have loops, too. Seriously.

I'll have to update my web page. Toboggan, father of the carnival coasters we see today. Continued at Dollywood with Mystery Mine, and now there's a bunch, which is why I made the page.

Chance rides gave it to us, but at least they came back with Lightning Run at KK.

It only makes one or two trips around the tower before it heads down into the loop, but rcdb.com says there are four of them.

Right, I think there's only one left in the USA that is permanent.
https://rcdb.com/268.htm
If you click the link, then the link that says Toboggan next to the word Model, all those coasters will appear (history). There's only one that says Operating. The father of the carnival coaster only has one left, and it's serial number 001, along with the one at Lakemont which is SBNO.

Was the one at Lakemont SBNO last year?

Is the one at CLP completely gone. I thought I saw it on site/off site but still at CLP property in 2015?

Oddly enough... I was just looking up coasters in Iran... and found another 'Looping Toboggan' listed on RCDB. ha - https://rcdb.com/13939.htm

And as far as the one at CLP goes, it was still sitting at the park last summer. - https://www.flickr.com/photos/canobiefan/28330808053/

Whether it's there or not, I can tell you that it's completely beyond repair. It was dispatched without the roof of the car locked properly, and got wedged inside the tower. If you look at late photographs of it you can actually see the car in place.

Richard...you are obviously one of the more prolific coaster riders in the world...not sure what your background is. I am not an engineer. What would make it beyond repair??? I am not sure if what you mentioned would make it past the point of repair.

Rust + metal fatigue alone is enough really. That's the advantage to wooden coasters.... you can replace them in pieces. Steel coasters you can't really do that.

Del Grossos is such a wonderful park in desperate need of a wood coaster. If Lakemont ultimately closed my dream would be Leap The Dips & Skyliner to be relocated to Del Grossos.

Not yet. The Holiday event doesn't end until January 7.

Also, Lakemont Park's Facebook presence has gone by the wayside after they changed the name of their Facebook page to the "Holiday Lights on the Lake at Lakemont Park" back in November. They may have simply unpublished the page, but it's possible it's been deleted.

I missed the word "economical".

Everything can be repaired, but there becomes a point when the repair is more than the ride is actually worth. (I'd argue that that figure is $0 for a Chance Toboggan, but that's beside the point).

FYI my source for this was the manager of the park.
