Hi my name is Christine,

I have recently purchased a Blue Parakeet, but I dont have any idea on
how I can tell if my bird is a male or female. Can someone tell me on
how I can tell the sex of my bird?

In article <32691E...@concentric.net>, rco...@concentric.net says...
Look at the birds nose area just above the beak. From my understanding
this area will be bluish for males and brown for females. However if your
budgie is young this coloring doesn't develop right away and it is difficult
to tell the sex until he or she is older.

Hi Christine,
If your bird is over six months old, the easiest way to tell if it is
male or femal is look at the cere, which is the fleshy part right above
the beak. For girls, it is tan to deep brown color, and for boys it is a
deep blue. If it is a baby bird, however, females usually have a baby
blue cere, which is not to be confusedwith the mature male's deep blue.
Females also have white around the nostrils. Young males have a
pinky/mauve color. And the cere is a bit more bulgy on the male than
female. Females tend to bite harder than males.

Thanks for the repley to my posting, the parakeet is still rather
young. But your information will help me when the bird is a little
older.
