Has anyone ever heard of a guitar luthier by the name of Kim Schwartz, and
if so does anyone know anything about him. I was recently told he was a
very well known luthier and that he could build me a very nice guitar.

Thank You,

AJ,

Mr. Gilman posted his question 17 yrs ago. Your answer may be pointless.

In addition to building custom guitars, Kim's other talents include studying and teaching yoga in Albuquerque and his alter ego activity, driving sports cars

Some quotes from Kim's students:

"I had not incarnated into my body until I met Kim"

"Kim has a prismatic way of seeing the poses"

"Kim helped me open my heart"

"I trust him as a guide on 'the path'."

Ye gotta shake it upside down over yer head and chant "OM"; unless it's an F-hole then yer just shit out of luck.

Dave, there are luthiers who could take that long to make a guitar. Not the ones who hang around here but they do exist.

Does chanting "OM" work if it's a treble-O or a parlour guitar?

Funny stuff above, but has anyone tried a KTS archtop? Awesome - the man is a genius. I have one right here, right now (Manchester, UK). I know nothing of its history and can find nothing about the guy through Google (other than Yoga and Albuquerque). I've tried a $10,000 guitar - this one is better. Keith

Hi, Since 1979 I have owned about 15 Kim's guitars -- classical and archtop. I don't think that there is anybody better. I still have 1 Kim's archtop that I never play, as my heart is with Kim's classical guitars.

Just stumbled upon this 23 year old post. Just to add a bit of info. I knew Kim since we were about 16. He immersed himself in repairing, building (and playing) guitars and went on to become one of the top few luthiers in Chicago. His forte became acoustic (arch top and flat top). I own an acoustic he built in 1992 (in addition to numerous other major brand acoustics). My Schwartz is still one of my 2 go-to acoustics. An amazing instrument that started out fantastic and has held up and improved over time. He is now, from what I've heard, a nationally well respected yoga instructor in the Southwest. I don't think he makes guitar any more.

I just visited Guitar Vista in Albuquerque NM and played a Schwartz guitar. I was told he still builds and that he is a most excellent yogi.
