Should we recommend Har Mandir Singh Hamraaz for the Padma awards of
the Government of India? It would be an acknowledgment of his tireless
efforts.
I do not know the procedure. May be some of us can write to the
Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
Would appreciate other member's views and comments.
Regards
Sukesh
Interesting thought. I don't know about the Padma awards, but perhaps
we can approach "SOCIETY OF INDIAN RECORD COLLECTORS" and recommend
that they take the initiative in instituting some sort of recognition
for various people who have made significant contributions to the
advancement of HFM by documenting, publishing and sharing information
about this important heritage of our culture. The awards can even be
from any one of the institutions in India that recognize the
contributions of musicians (singers, MDs etc).
MR
I think you have to have some kind of inside line for these things.
In any case, he has already won the UP Ratan award, the highest
civilian award given by the UP Govt. I attended the ceremony and wrote
a report for LB:)
He definitely deserves it. May be writting to president's office directly
will get some attention.
AJ
Why not Profji - he deserves it for whatever HE IS ( minus prefix-n-
minus suffix). IAlthough, we radically DIFFER by way of 'inputs' or
'outputs'.....Chanakyas like Sukesh or Indrajits & Goebbels of this
forum are more than enough to 'sail through' Profji successfully.

ROTFL at Guri's place in Denver...
Deepak
What does ROTFL denote pls?
19/9
If you go to the Fish market that you keep referring to, anybody will
tell you what ROFTL stands.
Alternatively, you will have to trudge to some member's humble abode
and there you will be told, no jhalaks.

Sukesh
I believe, ROTFL is "rolling on the floor laughing", allegedly a fav
pastime of ITABs
oh yes
Please name singer and movie of the followng vintage song.

If any one knows the exact procedure for distribution of awards. We can
start a wittings to the office to get proper attention on our
demand.Certainly we all should do it together....

Are you attempting to test my knowledge? Its senseless in the first
place..bcoz like every human being, I am also one having a 'limited
human memory'.
Further , you and others like you..despite having a general
fascination for cine music are being everytime irked and itchy to pin
me down with some mystery-querry on cine music that could exist or co-
exist in mere PRINT form or perhaps audible only from the sound
track.
Apart from film PARICHAY ('54) there has been no gramaphone film
record commencing..repeat: commencing with those words/line; unless
the line you state is somewhere in the middle of the 'asthayi'. If you
are hell bent upon getting a positive answer, please provide me an
aural clip that in which the your stated line MUST COMMENCE from the
very first groove of the song-record. CD or sound track related clip
will not do.

* Another favourite pass time of ITABs
Took me for a ride !

Why not? Tit for tat !
Not my style, pls - Let him try his best

But, I was really on the floor reclined on a few pillows. The seating
for the RMIM meet in Denver is actually on the floor, although with
comfortable cushions and pillows. I did find Vijay's comment funny and
I did start laughing. OK, I did not actually start rolling around. But
you get the idea. And yes, it is a favorite pastime of mine. Laughter
is good for health..
Oh, before I forget, Profji could not make it to the meet this time
(very busy), but was kind enough to send in his famous quiz. As usual,
very few people got the correct answers. But he did send in the
answers too. We did not have to go to his home in California to get
the answers. See ITAB behavior has its benefits :-)
The commemorative CD was dedicated to "The Unsung Composer". It has a
selection of some very nice songs composed by the following Composers
-
Sushant Banerji
Jayanti Joshi
Bharat Mehta
Chic Chocolate
Dilip Dholakia
Jamal Sen
V. Balsara
Suresh Talvaar
Pandit Dhaniram
SD Batish
Ramesh Naidu
Mukul Roy
Nisaar
Sanmukh Babu Upadhyay
Vedpal Varma
Vasant Prabhu
James Singh
SL Merchant
SK Pal
Bhola Sheshtha
Arjun Chandani
BN Bali
Robin Banerji
Malay Chakravarti
Shyam Sharma
Robin Chatterji
Madan Sachdev
BTW, thanks for answering Jay's question. I did not get a chance to
log into RMIM forum after that last post.
Deepak
Ouch! For using one of my all-time fav songs like this...
C
A very 'step motherly treatment' to the "unsung composer" ( in your
parlance) particularly when you as a Maharastrian, by birth, should
have voiced your rights - this is termed as 'magnitude of
IGNORANCE' .!
Ask me why-n-how ?
The GKs are there( or would be there) before you alongwith the
'shishya/shagird' , or likely to be there. How then, that composers
like Shridhar Parsekar, Annasaheb Mainkar, Dada Chandekar, Mukund M.
Masurekar..to name a few ; have been ignored ???
Do the ITABS ever heard of their MELODIC CLASS-n-CREATIVITY ?
=========================================
Profji is totally ZERO about the aural contents of the above - how
will the coterie know. And the MAHAGURU is in samadhi always!
Kya batayen ishk zalim, kya qayamat utthayen hain,
Is sey bhi kahdo ki takleef kyun farmayen hain...

Jay- actually they had decided give Prof.saab Padmashree but then
while verifying his credentials they came across views of one very
knowledgeable wizard of filmi music and they dropped the idea. Now the
are thinking of giving Padmasree to this Wizard. So rejoice.
.
Glad to you are human being I thought you are GOD ( it is not misspelt
-as may believe)
Jayji - good to know you think you are human being.I thought you are
GOD ( the word is not miss pelt as some may believe)
Surely Jay saab does not deserve this (misspelt bit).
regards,
Sunil
Jalke dil khak huva - is I think from old Parivara sung by Lata MD ?
If I am not mistaken the song starts as Dil ke phaphole
The question is straight and pin-pointed in which every RMIMer at the
proposed Denver-meet should seek justification.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atleast, pay tributes to the greatness of those stalwarts - whether
you have listened to their repertoire or not. Kahan gaye tumhare
CORRIGENDA aevum ADDENDA.
THEY, along with other contemporaries formed the very "jud" of
Indian Cine Music - which has blossomed with TIME !
Yes or No ??
20/9
hi
this is post is RMIM forum uptodate here ??
dhall
This comment reeks of parochialism. More importantly, why should it
bother you what a group of RMIMers aka ITABs (for whom you have only
demonstrated contempt) do or not do in their meetings?
Regards
Sukesh
To know the answer to your question, you will have to pay the price (your
words). You will have to come to the RMIM meet and find out. No ITAB answers
for you :-). But seriously, the commemorative CD is put together by a few
people. The CD can accommodate only so many songs. What criteria they used
to select the composers to put on this CD is complicated.
Also, you probably missed my statement that Profji was not there at the
meet.
Deepak
The Criteria - thats it. Whats it- since you are also a part of the
meet. THEY means what - who? Surely you know them well - wjhy haven't
YOU..as a member-cum- enthusiast with tonnes of cine music in your
Ipod - why have you not cared to ask them my poser.
Honestly, don't you think my poser is justified from your POV when
addressing THEM. Wjhy did this THOUGHT not occur to you for these gr8
Maharashtrian usung composers. Haven't I sent earlier to you in FULL
the haunting Shridhar Parsekar composed solos by Lalita Paralkar;
Haastha, khelata... from the Marathi drama: MAAZE GHAR
How can you afford to forget the Maharashtrian talent to Hindustani
Cine Music since inception. ! If you are UNAWARE of the talent, ; ask
Profji the details - infact , he MUST COMPLY to your requests
especially when he puts up QUIZZES in your meets of FUN-n-FROLIC
(minus enlightenment) !!
Am I wrong?
20/9
I go to these meets to enjoy the hospitality of those who host the
meet. They also provide food. As it happens, there were no
Maharashtrian dishes offered. But such is life, what?
Finally, to quote Vijay
baat un pe hii Khat'm hoti hai
ham se chaahe jidhar kii baat karo!
Deepak
Hamari 'hospitality' may kaunsi kami thi jo baar-baar hichki aati hai
- maharashtrian dishes bhi jo thhae !
21/9
The song (one of my ten top favorites) is from Parichay, music by
Sailesh.
Narsingh
Wow! Thats Awsome. Wish I could get it!
Parry
I suppose it was not intentional! They mustnt have compiled the CD of
Lesser known composers not by looking at his mother tongue. One
shouldnt divide RMIM on Linguistic basis. BTW those who want to listen
to great Marathi songs or Natyageets should immediately tune in to
eprasaran.com
Jay, I am surprised at your reaction. You should be happy with the
commemorative as you keep complaining that RMIMers focus too much on
the big names and ignore the lesser known talents and their
compositions. I do see some Maharashrian and Gujarati composers in the
list along with those from other parts. I assume that the hosts were
constrained by the number of songs. Can you tell me that if the other
Maharashtrian composers have to be included and the number of
composers is fixed, who would you remove from the above list?
It is sad to see you making this a regional issue.
Kalyan
ps: Personally, I am sad that there hasn't been any commemorative yet
on CR even after 40-50 commemoratives. I hope that it is redressed in
the next RMIM meet in India.
BCSP : You are totally wrong in calling Annasaheb Mainkar and Dada
Chandekar 'unsung composers'. It is like putting the label 'unsung' on
Shyam Sunder or Kamal Dasgupta. All these names are well-known,
mainstream composers.
- dn
In what way I am wrong, Sir !
The present generation (rmimers mostly are all ITABs - only half
hearted book knowledge all bungled , unlike the original catalogues
issued by the Cos from time2time.
Even I do not know much of those MDs' personal lives but DEFINITELY I
can lecture on their individual talents. Out of 100 rmimers, today, how
many have TRULY LISTENED to the film songs of those composers. The
NOTED website of which YOU are one proponent ( do not deny this)
directly or indirectly - IS IT SINGING the songs of those MDs even by
mistake?
I am a Tamilian and an ardent lover of their repertoire even though I
was very young thence. We never had a radio even right till 1963.
Everything depends on how much practical efforts / labour one puts in
with devotion / love / perseverance against all types of odds (inclg
the better half) and steer oneself to SUCCESS with a +ve feeling of
accomplishment.
Is anyone doing? Has anyone done?
--------------------------------------------------
If at all I have done, is it really necessary to prove it to the
forum ? And even if I prove it in 'my style' the forum is bound to
react unconstuctively in their ways, which furthers strengthens my
deep study of "THE HUMAN MINDSET".
You Maharashtrians should be proud of your predecessor-MDs and their
contributions to Hindustani Film Music-genre, however popular or
trivial it may be.
Just answer me this pin-pointed question?
==============================
Where have they been SUNG?
When have they been SUNG?
How have they been SUNG? - In which manner ?
Pls enumerate with details.
BOOK KNOWLEDGE is of NO USE, Sir
---------------------------------------------------------
21/9
But songs composed by Govindrao Tembe in Ayodhecha Raja are still
reasonably popular. Same with Dada Chandekar's songs in Brahmachari,
Village Girl and Lahore by Shyam Sunder, Ram Rajya (both Hindi and
Marathi) by Shankarrao Vyas. Their songs have been hosted on and off
on Profjee's site, and by indianscreen.com, and by some other sites
like YouTube, too. Shridhar Parsekar's songs in the drama Vahini are
still popular in Maharashtra and Tembe's music from Maanaapamaan is
still EXTREMELY popular, 100 years after the drama was written.
Profjee had very kindly hosted a song (only in jhalak form, since I
did not want to make it available in full to ITABs) sung by Master
Vinayak in Ayodhyecha Raja. I had shared the song in full with more
knowledgeable rmim crowd over email. Vishnupant Jog's songs in
Brahmachari have been hosted on some websites in the past. Amirbai's
songs in Amrapali of 1940s are available on some internet sites. Songs
from Ram Rajya have been extracted by Profjee from the soundtrack and
made available in entirety for a long time by now. You are quite blind
in ignoring the excellent work done by Profjee and by several other
champions of vintage music.
- dn
POPULARITY is not the contention here. The objective is to 'enlighten'
through any 'available media' that has a large footprint. Whether the
listener(s) is/are interested in hearing them or not, is not the POV.
The passion IN THE INDIVIDUAL will do that. Secondly, the topic of
discussion is HINDI CINE MUSIC & not Marathi or Tamil. When necessary,
I would even do that and send you tizzy. TFM is sometimes hosted here-
n-there to enjoy its unique recepees as well an aural study of
'contrasts-n-contemporaries' of HFM / TFM.
FULL songs you have given and hosted accdgly bcoz the 'vultures' are
not able to 'relish-n-digest' the product(s) except by some staunch
allies of your coterie. Its something like 'junk food' - from USA you
can only get that - where is the labour evident therein ? If at all it
was there, you very well know then... The INPUTS lack credibility !
How can you get SUCCESS..except ALSO RAN. One may / can PROCLAIM
whatever he wishes.....alongwith jee jee jee.... in chorus.
Can you produce or Dalwadi produce the Hindi cine melodies of maestros
SHridhar Parsekar; Annasahib Mainkar, Balaji Chowgule; S.P.Rane and
the HFM Voices of Indira Wadkar, Lalitha Paralkar; Saroj Velingkar and
many more to the ITABs' 'ears' of "armchair listening'' FREE - which
they term it as SHARING !!
Thats what these Rmimers want and Profjee alongwith your SUPPORT is
sailing merrily. Others are there to take care of him.
BCSP shows the path 'in ACTION-n-in the finest resolution'
everytime ..and introducing MDs and Voices that EXIST ONLY ON PAPER to
the avid reader(s)...uss mein bhi satra-sau galthiyan-n-pollution.
Aisa kyon..aap ke hotey huwe bhi?
'Chalta hai' attitude in the 'blood' which ROBS OFF RUTHLESSLY any
positive actions firm.
22/9
If you cannot, just keep 'mum' and watch the proceedings
Profjee's naiya is definitely sailing merrily from my POV. He has
hosted more songs from BCSP than from me. So your support to him has
also been terrific, and you should keep joining hands instead of
spreading hate. He may be keeping mum now just to enjoy himself. He
deserves it. You also deserve it.
Hindi cine songs by Parsekar, Mainkar, and other worthies mentioned by
you (except perhaps Saroj Velingkar) have been discussed on rmim from
time to time. Keshavrao Bhole's analysis of the strengths and
weaknesses of Indira Wadkar's singing has also been quoted on rmim
years ago. If you learn how to search Usenet Groups' archives, you
will find lot of enlightenment about these artists.
- dn
What do you mean by HOSTED?
========================
Has he made LIVE programs or given lecture-cum-demos on Indian cine
music on any topic at any public auditorium infront of well known
connoisseurs? Never ever - His philosophy is well known and he prefers
silence . SO BE IT then!
But why are you dragging Profji into our conversation of Maharashtrian
Unsung Composers? Profji ONLY KNOWS to put up songs on HIS WEB - of
any quality that comes in to his hands. He knows NOTHING MORE THAN THAT
and leaves the rest to the ITABs.
Everyone in this world is on their OWN finally - however smart,
intelligent or powerful? Buddhi kabhi bhi palat sakti
hai !
22/9
I propose a suitable award to Prof. Singh, not for his tireless and
mostly selfless service to RMIM, but the manner in which he has
treated Jay's exhortations; with a silence that borders on to being
saintly! Unless it is merely contemptuous, in which case let's give
him an award anyway:-)
Vijay
Why 'suitable' jee? Udhar bhi 'milawat' ? SILENCE is GOLDEN ! Don't u
know that? Thus, he should be given a GOLDEN AWARD - I vote for it .
