SOUL POET's SYNDICATE New Music Video FLIPPIN' Confronts Opioid Related Deaths in Indian Country
Mashpee Wampanoag hip-hop collective sends message about opioid deaths to drug dealers in the Native community with FLIPPIN'.
"Enough is enough, that's why we're Flippin'..."
MASHPEE – “Flippin” or ‘Flipping Bags’ are street slang for selling heroin, a significant problem in communities throughout the USA. Among the hardest hit are Native American communities with the Mashpee Wampanoag having the highest per capita rate of deaths due to opioid overdoses. A collective of young Mashpee Wampanoag MCs, dubbed the Soul Poet’s Syndicate and a pair of native record producers decided to ‘flip the script’ and used the term as the title of their anti-opioids campaign anthem.
FLIPPIN', the debut single of Soul Poet's Syndicate drops some truths about the community casualties of the opioid trade and it's effects on Indian Country. Along with the music video, versions of the song will be available on iTunes, Spotify, AppleMusic, and Amazon on March 29.
Soul Poet's Syndicate is a spoken-word and media artist's collective who's members include poets, MCs, singers, storytellers, filmmakers, videographers, and graphic artists, primarily from the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe. It formed as an outgrowth from the Arts Mentoring Program offered by Song Keepers, LTD a professional Native Arts and Education organization.
