What is your score?

Very interesting and no one will know your score.

This is a terrific test. And it shows results in a number of ways.
It sure indicates that the majority of Americans don't know what's
going on. No wonder our politicians take such advantage.

It's astonishing that so many people got fewer than half right. These
results say that 80% of the (voting) public don't have a clue - and
that's pretty scary to say they vote. There are no tricks here - just
a simple test to see if you are current on your information.

I got em all right; along with only 1% of the population.

To be fair, I live in Europe, so the UK Prime Minister question was
easy for me, whereas for most Americans, it's probably not. But they're
pretty easy questions for the most part.

I got 11 out of 12. I thought that we were spending more money on the
interest on the National Debt than on Defense

I got 10 right - missed the British PM (I said Hayward) and the % of
TARP payback (I said less than half). So, this is from memory - did
the British PMs go Blair to Brown to Cameron?

Huh, interesting.

When you look at the results, you can see where most people get them
wrong. TARP and Android are the two biggies. I'm not surprised about
the TARP question, as the Repugs, who created it, wanted to foist it on
the Dems, saying it's their fault, and pretending that all that money
was spent (it wasn't) and none was repaid (most has been already).

I got 12 for 12.

I read Talking Points Memo blog and about three other political blogs
several times a day. Although many pundits bemoan the state of
political discourse these days, that we can choose the news bias we
want and hear only that, there is a very real difference between those
wingnut blinders and the left of center POV blogs.

The Right famously constructs its own reality, as demonstrated by, say
Fox News or arguments against the health care bill that call it "job
killing" and claim it will hurt the deficit. The Big Lie is at the
core of right wing politics, in most of their arguments. The left has
its own biases, of course. Some might say the predictions of savings
in the health care bill could be optimistic-- but I think the numbers
most people cite are the CBO (i.e. non-partisan) numbers.

By contrast, the right is happy to foment and tolerate a strategy that
implies Obama is not a citizen, when everyone in power in GOP politics
knows this is a malicious but useful lie, in undercutting people's
support of the President. Likewise, Droopy Dog Lieberman exits stage
left claiming to Arianna Huffington that "We found the WMDs,
sweetheart!" when this is demonstrably untrue.

I read all those, but mostly during election cycles (which are getting
to be almost permanent;-)

Here's the urls for my regulars:

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/

excellent "old school" model journalism. They employ quite a few shoe
leather reporters of sorts, and are helmed by a guy who has written
for the Atlantic, Washington Monthly, etc.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/

Occasionally leans a little inside DC, but again, leans on old school
methods of reporting with some attitude.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

covers politics, entertainment, comedy, what have you...

http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum

Drum used to write the Wash Monthly blog. He's a very reasonable,
center-left guy based in San Diego

http://www.salon.com/

This one is not a blog, but a magazine, really; but good, reliable,
journalism with a left of center flavor. They exposed the philandering
of much of Clinton's impeachers (Henry Hyde, Bob Barr, etc.) back in
the day and the Abu Gharaib photos more recently as well.

KOS & ThinkProgress and a few others I dip into less frequently.

When did the Huffington Post become such an inbred fuck-fest?

Typical HP headlines now:

"You Won't Believe THIS Supreme Court Decision!"

"Yes, This Conservative Senator Went THERE When Referring To Obama!"

"Watch What Happens When This Gay Waitress Responds A Rude Customer!"

"What This Puppy Does To This Kitten Will Melt Your Heart!"

HP went full-facebook, that's what happened. First they banished the conservatives by requiring a verified Facebook account to post. Their existence is what made commenting there fun. I guess they were trying to create a more civil discourse but now you're just preaching to the choir. Lately it seems they've given up on their own comment sections in favor of Facebook comments. No longer worth commenting anymore since threads are much harder to follow and therefore less interesting. It has definitely become a liberal echo chamber. Maybe it always was but now even more so.

I like the Pew Research News IQ quiz site, 'cause they update the questions somewhat regularly. FWIW, there are now 13, of which I got 11 & missed 2.

Missed Q #1: "What does the gold shaded area on this map represent? All states that currently..."
I answered "have a minimum wage above the national minimum"
The correct answer is "allow same-sex marriage"
IMO "why?" = "I just don't care about either topic".

Missed Q #5: "Which of the following shows the trend in the Dow Jones Industrial Average between January 2008 and July 2013?"
I answered "4"
The correct answer is "1"
IMO "why?" = "I think the Obama economy sucks worse than it does, apparently".
