Four hobbits made good time today.
At noon they lunch and rest their weary toes.
The sun was warm upon the face.
Then they began to doze.
And then the shadow rose.
They woke at sunset in a fog.
They tried to go the way they'd gone before.
Brave Frodo led them through the gloom,
But through some standing stones
Frodo lost his pony and his way
He found he was alone!
He thought he heard them, far away.
He cried "Where are you?" though he was afraid.
A voice said "Here"; A voice so cold.
His knees just gave away,
Then he felt a touch,
A touch that chilled...his...bones....

Woke up, with sense of dread
In barrow cold and dark and dead.
Merry, Pip and Sam, out, pale and cold
A barrow wight about to cut their throats.
Frodo grabbed a barrow blade
He cleaved a wrist of wight in twain.
He remembered Tom, the rhyme he taught.
Frodo stood up and then he began to sing,

"Tom Bombadil!
Water, wood, and by hill!
Ho! Tom! Now hear us!
For our need is near us!"

Tom heard and came out right away.
He banished wight, found ponies, woke the three.
Sharp barrow-blades he gave them all,
And then Tom saw them off
Away from barrow wights and on the road to Bree and warmer halls
Four hobbits travel on...
