found on the August Ansible
Jane Yolen brags of having been chosen as one of the 125 – by your
editor's count – Unsung Heroines of Massachusetts for 2016, and asks
meaningfully: 'How does a body get sung around here?' (18 July)

One of the things she's most famous for, at least around Boskone, is a
certain piece of advice about how to handle a certain award. That could
certainly be the subject of a song.

The Skylark Award honors E. E. Smith, so appropriately enough, it
includes a fairly large lens. If left in the sunlight, Yolen discovered,
it can set things to smoldering. When she accidentally learned this, she
said she'd have to "put it where the sun doesn't shine." This has become
a standard line at the Boskone awards ceremony.
