Okay, I'll play. I think I understand the concept -- we're looking to
see who is the coolest based on how many of these named artists we
DON'T have albums for (have I got that right?) Because I am going to
win hands down. Below see artists I've never owned...

I may have owned a Chuck Berry 45, which would have been very
typical. People kept trying to give me Lynyrd Skinner & No Doubt, and
I kept giving them back. I think I would like a White Stripes album,
but I don't seem to have enough interest to go searching for the one
I'd choose. I think Green Day is an excellent band, makes great
music, and are perfect for who they are & what they do... but I
wouldn't own one of their albums.

Otherwise, I am SO cool. And easily bored. And cheap. And slightly
ADD. And very very musically spoiled.

btw -- is this considered trolling?

...But I love the Killers. I consider the one of the best active
bands out there. But I can't stand the bands that apparently
influenced them. Oh well, I actually don't listen to too much Woody
Guthrie either.

Welll, I lean toward "White Blood Cells". But they all have their
charm. Jack White Strikes me as Bob-like in the sense of lack of
conformity and natural distaste for the status quo. He doesn't have
to resort to vulgarity or profanity to get his thing across either, if
that matters to you. Hope you like a healthy dose of screaming waves
of melodic (and sometime non-sense-ical) distortion to start your day
though. (But really, there;s more to it than that).

Ok, I'll play, but I won't pay. ;-)

The following list is of the artists from your list that I have
nothing from on any media, other than a track or two in a compilation
or sampler. The asterisks show artists whose works I had on vinyl but
never replaced on other media once I sold off 90% of the old record
collection before my move north:

2. AC/DC *
5. Alice in Chains
8. Blondie *
10. Boston *
12. Carole King *
13. Chicago *

15. Coldplay
16. Def Leppard
17. Depeche Mode

19. Duran Duran
25. Foreigner *
29. Hall & Oates
30. Jackson Browne *
32. Jane's Addiction
34. John Mellencamp
36. KISS
38. Lynyrd Skynyrd *
39. Madonna *
43. New Order

50. Red Hot Chili Peppers

54. Siouxsie & the Banshees

57. The Allman Brothers *
58. The B-52's *
59. The Beastie Boys
60. The Cars *
61. The Cure
62. The Eagles *
63. The Go-Go's *
65. The Smiths
69. Tom Petty
73. ZZ Top **

** Even got rid of the CD too...

(I tried posting this before and it never showed up. If my original
reply mysteriously turns up, there may be some discrepancies due to
late "breaking" information.)

For what it's worth (which almost certainly isn't much), I own nothing
by the following performers: I do have to admit to being surprised by
the fact that there are people who own nothing by Chuck Berry or Buddy
Holly. Not even a greatest hits album for $5.99, guys?

I have given thought on occasion to getting something by Echo & The
Bunnymen, but usually I just lie down and wait for the impulse to
pass.

I'm not sure I got the point of this game, as Janice said.
(where should *we* prove you wrong??? showing that we love more pop acts
than you do???)
oh, well.....I'm game.
I like lists and I like music so here I am.

There's none of these acts which I don't own at least one song.
I've got at least one album for 90% of them.
More than 2 or 3 for more than a half of them.
The ones I list underneath are among my favourite bands, as I'm going to
point out more thoroughly.

> 3. Aerosmith
> 8. Blondie
> 10. Boston

> 20. Echo & the Bunnymen

I would rank these bands *really interesting*.
I own more than 1 album for each of them:

> 1. ABBA
> 2. AC/DC
> 13. Chicago
>12. Carole King
> 14. Chuck Berry
> 28. Guns n' Roses
> 41. Metallica
> 65. The Smiths
I would rank these bands *really good*.
I own at least the basic discography of all of them

> 42. Michael Jackson
> 6. Aretha Franklin
> 9. Bob Marley
> 22. Elvis Presley
> 33. Janis Joplin

> 39. Madonna
> 40. Marvin Gaye

> 47. Queen
> 48. Radiohead
> 53. Santana
> 61. The Cure
> 70. U2
These acts are definitely in my alltime top 100.
I own all their complete discographies.
(except for Presley & Franklin, for obviuos reasons)

> 15. Coldplay

> 18. Dire Straits
> 19. Duran Duran

> 21. Elton John

> 24. Fleetwood Mac
> 27. Green Day

> 45. Otis Redding
These are among my top 20/30.
In particular, Dire Straits are the first group I really loved after the
golden age of symphonic rockk.
I used to love Duran Duran; i was the official translator of the italian
fanzine, back in the nineties.
I own something like 100 records of them, outtakes and bootlegs included.
The only artist whose discography I know better is Bob Dylan.
(yes, neither the Beatles nor Neil Young).
Their last album is in heavy rotation in my iPod.
All and all, they're among my alltime top *had a crush on* bands.
(surely my alltime fav *silly* band)
^_^
Green Day are, together with Teenage Fanclub, REM and Mano Negra, my
favourite band of the nineties.
Coldplay are, by far and large, my favourite act of this century.

PS
Am I the official win.......oops, sorry, I meant the official loser?

Actually, the promotional EP Rust wasn't too bad. I found it in with a cache of other promo CDs I snagged over the years at a local record store, including something called Janes Addiction. I never played it 'cause I didn't want to get addicted to military encyclopedias and gear and the like.

Not the same Janes you say?

I didn't know D2 had that many records... I kinda of lost track of
them after 2/3rds of the Taylors left the band...

As long as you couple your lay down with good thoughts/good
feelings stuff, it's a very fair way. Experiencing is what we, as one
human company, have lost much ground on. True Rastafarians have been
teaching us this stuff about good vibrations for a while now. Good
time to practice it. whether you dance, fly or meditate. Hold good
ground of being, no need to buy into materialism and oil dung,
merchants of death swallow those now.

Oy! I hardly own any of those records below, but I have it good enough
to be able to contemplate with a giddy measure of pleasure and zest
the idea of musicians meeting and playing, for the huck and heck of
it.

This may come to pass. I certainly hope it does.

That was the one that turned me onto them. I really liked Sam's Town
but hated Day and Age when it came out, I thought it was too 80's-type
glam crap. Now I think it may be their best work. Very articulate
and precise music if you really listen. And Flowers isn't too bad of
a songwriter. However, I don't care much for Hot Fuss (Mr Brightside,
etc.)

eeeheheh....obviously they don't *have* all those records.
they released 17 albums, all and all.
If i include bootlegs, 45s, Q discs, picture discs, singles (all this stuff
was very popular back in the 80s) I get to 100 items, more or less
(93, my DB says).

I also have 352 Bob Dylan records.
But he actually released 49.

There's a lot that falls into that category. Simply put, I don't allocate
all *that much* time for listening, and I haven't for decades.

Well for me personally, there's a tendency not to buy stuff that predates me
being active in popular music. Berry, Elvis, Orbison, a lot of older jazz
stuff, even Buddy Holly, it's all stuff that I like and enjoy listening to,
but none of it winds up in my collection.

Did the alphabetical proximity of Duran/Dylan to each other in the
record bins prove to be a factor in your interest in both acts?...

Wow... I'm missing a few of these:

None by these two, ever...

Had "Toys In the Attic" & "Rocks" on vinyl 30-something years ago.

None by any of the five above.

Quite a lot of Marley on vinyl back in the day, a few by Tosh, the
"King Kong" compilation, probably others of the genre I can't remember
right now.

No, but wish I had some Holly.

Again, like Holly some Berry would be nice to have.

Their first three, way back in 1979-80 or so.

A lot of his pre-late 1970s depression era.

A lot of the late-1960s singles when they were coming out, no albums
it seems. No, I did have Sun Sessions many years ago.

Yes, it's incredible how Wild Boys is definitely unredeeemable.
EVERYtime I bump into it I go *yuk* and I have to compulsory skip that tune.
Easily among the worst tunes ever.

I'm not a fan of Is there Something.
If you like that, check the B side Of Big Thing out, for example Palomino or
The Edge Of America.
Or Before The Rain from the last album.

<Me: Dusty Trails before, the Easybeats after.

My guru (iTunes) list first names first, so I have Bob Dorough before and
Bob Forrest after.
If I check the D spot, I have Dwight Yoakam before and E-Zee Posse after.

Before Easybeats I have stuff from Eagle Eye Cherry, Eagles, Eamon, East 17,
East Side Beat and Easy.
You have none of them?
Not even the Eagles???

ehehehehehe....back in the 80s, I was a big fan of Diego Maradona.
And (as you all know here) I believe in God, who (which? Who? ^-^ ) in
italian is *Dio*.
So from time to time I had people asking me what was the freudian reaction I
had towards the letter D (Dio, Dylan, Diego and Duran).
Someone told me there might have been something in the back of my mind,
y'know, like people whose name is John Baker and they end up making bread
because the job has a familiar and cosy sound to their ears.
But I've never realized what's there between me and the letter *D*.

Ok, just wanted to share this old memory.

<Do you have no physical albums left?

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!
I would neverevernever get rid of my albums!!!
I've got app. 2000.......but it's not even a half of the rest I have on
tapes and Cd.
So in the end the only reliable source to check what I have is to ask
iTunes, since
I translated (almost all of) my vynils in digital format.

Well......the other ones do, too, actually.

(though *stay* from East 17 is definitely a well contrived song)

I've never even heard of "Wild Boys", or any of the other tunes
mentioned here (& have no idea who the recording artist who made them
is), is there a prize?

I assume there's some reference to W.S. Burroughs & his Wild Boys,
though, possibly via Bowie..?

My Racist (and Sexist) Collection

Ron Sexsmith – I’ve collected him for years
Ben Folds – features prominently in my collection
Beck – probably the most collectible after Dylan
The White Stripes – they just scream “collect me!”
Whiteboy Slim and the Crackers – one of the true highlights of my
collection
The Westboro Baptist Choir – as collectible as it gets
Bob Dylan – about 100,000 albums, collected
Otis Redding, Al Green, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin -- I sent
these negroes to the collection agency where they belong
