Entertainment-TV events on April 26th
In 1989, 15 years ago, Lucille Ball, the first celebrity David Tanny
ever recognized, died at age seventy-seven on his 29th birthday. The
beloved redheaded comedienne pioneered the sitcom format with I Love
Lucy and became a Hollywood mogul by purchasing RKO Studios with her
television earnings.
In 1991, talking puppetlike "Dinosaurs" come to ABC in a prehistoric
sitcom from the mind of the late muppeteer Jim Henson. Voices include
Stuart Pankin, Jessica Walter, Sally Struthers and Sherman Hemsley.
It was the first Jim Henson project since his death. His son Brian
inherited the Henson empire last year.
In 1993, former "Simpsons" comedy writer Conan O'Brien was named to
succeed David Letterman as host of NBC's "Late Night" program.
In 1999, 5 years ago, "The Tongiht Show with Jay Leno" aired in HDTV on
NBC for the first time.
In 2000, Helen Eileen Beardsley, a mother of 20 whose story was made
into a 1960s movie starring Lucille Ball (who died on this date in
1989), died after suffering from Parkinson's disease for 10 years.
She was 70. Beardsley wrote a book about her brood called "Who Gets
the Drumsticks?" It was later made into the movie "Yours, Mine and
Ours," which also starred Henry Fonda. Born Helen Eileen Brandmeir in
Seattle, she married Lt. Richard North in 1949 and the couple had
eight children. North died in 1960. She married Navy Chief Warrant
Officer Francis Beardsley, a widower with 10 children, in 1961. In
1963, her husband adopted her eight children, the largest adoption to
date in California. The Beardsleys also had two children of their
own. Because of the size of their household, the Navy listed the
Beardsleys as a restaurant, allowing them to buy food at wholesale
prices at the Fort Ord Army Base commissary. The family bought 50
loaves of bread at a time.
In 2000, Only four days, and two all-nighters. after the Elian Gonzalez
raid, Comedy Central's "South Park" aired a parody that depicted
Attorney General Janet Reno in an Easter bunny outfit capturing
Romanian contortionists on David Tanny's 40th birthday. The cartoon
was completed only hours before it was telecast on the cable network
that night. In the episode, a rifle-toting cartoon Janet Reno drops
from a helicopter with a team of commandos to grab Romanian
quintuplets from a closet, disabling their new family with tear gas
hidden in an Easter egg. The girls had escaped from a circus, but
Reno ordered them returned to their home country after their father -
- with a gun to his head -- begs for them to come back. As they leave
for Romania, the girls have harsh words for protesters who wanted
them to stay in America -- "get a life" -- and for the "South Park"
kids who harbored them.
In 2003, 1 year ago, on the cover of TV Guide: Jennifer Aniston.

In 1955, "The Bob Hope Show". In a canine takeoff of This Is Your Life,
Lassie sits on a couch as a stream of "people" from her past parade
by: The dogs are dressed and walking on hind legs, all of them
practically ignoring Lassie. Then Hope intones, "At this time,
Lassie, romance comes into your life.a Here he isaRudolph the Warm-
Nosed Airedale." In walks a nattily attired dog carrying a shopping
bag and leading his own little dog on a leash. Rudolph knows his
role: He goes right to Lassie, seems to whisper something intimate in
her ear; they nuzzle, and the Airedale strolls on like Maurice
Chevalier with a tail. Hope almost passes out laughing, bent over
double. It happened in a dress rehearsal, but Hope put the footage
into the final broadcast, realizing that perfect pooch moment could
never be duplicated.

Weird and Other events on April 26th
In 1999, 5 years ago, it is reported today that Two calves cloned from
cells found in cow's milk have been born in northern Japan, officials
said. The births last week at the Snow Brand dairy company's research
center in Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido were the first
ever using colostrum - the milk produced in the first week after a
cow has delivered, the company said. The procedure could make it
safer for animals to donate their cells for cloning, as the
extraction of cells from milk does not require making an incision in
the donor cow and reduces the risk of infection, Snow Brand said. The
cloned calves were produced by the same method used to produce the
sheep Dolly, the world's first cloned animal.

Telemundo, Telefutura, and Univision! Ole!
In 2099, D.T. has been dead for some time. Nothing but junk on TV and
