General events on July 10th
In 1040, Lady Godiva rode horseback through a Coventry while naked;
according to legend, shw rode as part of a bargain to get her husband
Leofric, Earl of Mercia, to ease taxes on the people of Coventry.
In 1985, after three and a half months of a less then enthusiastic
reception for the "new" Coke and pressured by its customers, Coca-
Cola Co. resumed selling old formula Coke, but announced they would
continue to sell "New" Coke and call the original "Classic" Coke.
You see the new coke used to be the old coke with the old formula,
which is now the new formula for the new coke, then called coke. The
classic coke used to not exist with the old coke's formula before the
formula that was in new coke when it was still the formula for the
coke before it became new. Do you understand all this? Neither do
I. Let's have a Pepsi and think this over. Can you even find Coke
II on store shelves these days?

Entertainment events on July 10th
In 1989, the magnificent voice of Bugs, Daffy, Elmer Fudd (after Arthur
Q. Bryan passed away), Porky Pig and countless others, said th-th-th-
that's all folks. Mel Blanc died at age 81. Mel also created the
voice of Woody Woodpecker for Walter Lantz, but Mel was exclusively
employed by Warner Brothers and wasn't allowed to do Woody for Lantz.
So Walter went on a talent search and found the perfect one, Gracie,
and loved her so much he married her. Mel Blanc was also famous for
Barney Rubble from The Flintstones.

Entertainment-Soap events on July 10th
In 2000, Ventura Misses Soap Cameo. Gov. Jesse Ventura skipped watching
his cameo on the soap opera "The Young and the Restless" because he
was busy talking education. "You go out, you do it, you have fun
doing it," he said. "I'll see a tape of it later. I did it weeks ago.
It's not fresh in my mind now." Ventura played himself on his
favorite soap opera, appearing in scenes with stars Melody Thomas
Scott and Eric Braeden, who plays villain industrialist Victor Newman
on the CBS show. In one scene, Victor asks Ventura why he decided not
to run for president. "Why don't you run with me?" Ventura says.
"We'd be the dream ticket." Victor concedes it is an "interesting
idea" but says there is one problem -- who would take the top spot?
Ventura ponders the question for a moment. "That would be a problem -
- if our egos were to clash, I don't think the country could survive
it," he growls.

Man from Mars? Do you mean Marvin the Martian? I don't know why you're
pointing out that someone else originated Fudd. He wasn't the original of
several of the voices he played, including Porky Pig.

The legend is of dubious origin. According to one version, the people of
the town agreed to stay inside and not look as she rode through town. The
only one who looked is remembered as "Peeping Tom".

It's longer than 18 minutes. At one point he says he's been singing for
25 minutes, but that's only about 18 minutes in. I think the whole cut
runs 24 minutes.
I'll join in just as soon as the song comes around on the guee-tar.

No, but he's the voicist most people associate with Porky; the original voice of
Porky was someone who actually had a stammer and they let him go when it
developed that he couldn't control it well enough to match the animation....
Bryan *was* the one associated with Elmer...both Blanc and Hal ("Otis the
drunk") Smith did the character after Bryan died, but neither one really sounds
right in the part....

My copy measures 18:39...that's close enough to make "18-minute" a convenient
shorthand...the crack about "25 minutes" comes at 16:55...you may be thinking of
the remake (22:26) that includes the story about Chip Carter finding a copy of
the original in the record collection that Nixon left behind in the White House;
he refers there to the earlier recording as taking "eighteen minutes and twenty
seconds", but that's probably so he can make the observation that follows....r
Yes, but I think "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" is almost exactly 18:20 if
you exclude the applause at the end of the track.
>My copy measures 18:39...that's close enough to make "18-minute" a convenient
>shorthand...the crack about "25 minutes" comes at 16:55...
I stand corrected.
