Many years ago (25 or so) I heard a song that was titled or at least had as
its "hook" lines 'A Hugging and A Chalking' about a guy kissing a really
fat girl friend. Who sang this. My not-so-good memory wants to say Larry
Gross, but I've never heard of him other wise.

Any one got and answers or details?

Thanks!

ALSO available on Hoagy's CD of V-Disc recordings, available through
Collector's Choice Records. What a great song!

The song was written by Dixieland banjoist/vocalist Clancy Hayes, but the first recording, which was something of a hit, was, as noted by another responder, by Hoagy Carmichael. It was also recorded by Arthur Godfrey, who at one time was more ubiquitous on the airwaves (both radio and TV) in this country than anybody else before or since. It's more likely likely that it's the Arthur Godfrey recording that you heard 25 years ago. -------------------------------------------- Dick Baker - Falls Church, Virginia, USA dic...@goon.org
