The second song is "Somebody's Knockin'". It was sung by Teri Gibbs
who is blind but not Canadian. At least, I'm 99% sure she's from
the U.S.
Shelly West, who is neither blind nor Canadian, had a hit with
"Jose Cuervo".
Speaking of Jose Cuervo, I think Hoyt Axton penned
that song... but it doesn't appear on any of the several Hoyt
albums in my collection. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Here in the US, "Jose Cuervo" WAS sung by Dottie's (sighted) daughter,
Shelly West. The other song you refer to is "Somebody's Knockin'" by
Terri Gibbs, who IS blind. She's singing gospel these days.

The artist was Shelly West, and she's most emphatically not blind! The song
was #1 for her in 1983. As far as I know, the only other artist to release
this song as a single was the gal that wrote it, Cindy Jordan.

That's definitely Terri Gibbs. Her song "Somebody's Knockin'" in 1980 was her
only top ten single.

Hoyt did not write this song. Cindy Jordan did. It was her only #1.

I think it was Shelly West who sang, "Jose Cuervo", but the lines you
mentioned are from, "Somebody's Knocking" (Knockin'?). I can't remember the
artist right now, but chances are someone's answering this as I write
anyway! <g>

It must have been a single to have been the #1 song on 2/12/83 and
Billboard's #1 single of the year. I doubt that there are many of those
singles still around 13 years later, though.
Terri Gibbs. Or Terry Gibbs.

Umm... i dont remember Terry (Somebody's Knockin) Gibbs singing Jose Cuervo,
but i sure as heck remember
Shelley West doing a fine job of it.

"Jose Cuervo" was done by Shelly West. She's not Canadian and not blind,
and is the daughter of the late Dottie West. It was the #1 single of the
year in Billboard (in 1983?).
The artist you're looking for is Terri Gibbs. She is blind, but is not
Canadian. She's about 42 years old and is from Georgia. The song you
referenced is "Somebody's Knocking." It was a Top 20 country and pop single
and was nominated for Single of the Year at the CMA back in the early '80s.
If I recall correctly, she was the very first recipient of the CMA Horizon
Award. When country radio stopped playing her stuff, she went into
Christian music.
