thanks for the responses so far. The artist I am looking for is from
Canada, she may also have sung a song with some verses in it like " i
never dreamed he'd have blue eyes and blue jeans, i getting weaker and
he's coming on strong, but i dont wont to go wrong". I do know that she
is blind and that i havent heard anything from her in a long time. Thanks
for any more replies.

I was thinking Shelly West sang that song. But, she's not blind. Did
Teri Gibbs also do it? She is blind.

The second song is "Somebody's Knockin'". It was sung by Teri Gibbs
who is blind but not Canadian. At least, I'm 99% sure she's from
the U.S.

Shelly West, who is neither blind nor Canadian, had a hit with
"Jose Cuervo".

Speaking of Jose Cuervo, I think Hoyt Axton penned
that song... but it doesn't appear on any of the several Hoyt
albums in my collection. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Here in the US, "Jose Cuervo" WAS sung by Dottie's (sighted) daughter,
Shelly West. The other song you refer to is "Somebody's Knockin'" by
Terri Gibbs, who IS blind. She's singing gospel these days.

The singer you're thinking of is Terri Gibbs. She sang "Somebody's knocking."
Shelly West sang "Jose Cuervo.

Shelly West sang Jose Cuervo. She is the daughter of Dottie West and is
not blind to my knowledge.

The artist was Shelly West, and she's most emphatically not blind! The song
was #1 for her in 1983. As far as I know, the only other artist to release
this song as a single was the gal that wrote it, Cindy Jordan.

That's definitely Terri Gibbs. Her song "Somebody's Knockin'" in 1980 was her
only top ten single.

Hoyt did not write this song. Cindy Jordan did. It was her only #1.

I think it was Shelly West who sang, "Jose Cuervo", but the lines you
mentioned are from, "Somebody's Knocking" (Knockin'?). I can't remember the
artist right now, but chances are someone's answering this as I write
anyway! <g>

as you know by now the original is done by shelly west (1983) but the
lines
of the other song you mentioned are from a song out of the year 1980
"somebody's knockin' ". this song is from the "blind" female singer
"terri gibbs", who had her last chart-entry in 1987 and that's really a
long
time ago. the only problem about her is-she is a native from
augusta,georgia.
maybe she went to canada - or she was just very famous in canada, too.
"jose cuervo" has never been released as a 45 in the USA, but it could
be featured on one of her albums

It must have been a single to have been the #1 song on 2/12/83 and
Billboard's #1 single of the year. I doubt that there are many of those
singles still around 13 years later, though.

Umm... i dont remember Terry (Somebody's Knockin) Gibbs singing Jose Cuervo,
but i sure as heck remember
Shelley West doing a fine job of it.

Shelly West had a #1 hit with Jose Cuervo in May 1983. She is one of
only 9 singers whose first hit is their biggest hit of their career, and
it happened for her twice!! In 1981, she duetted with David Frizzell on
the chart-topping "You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma" and she took
"Jose Cuervo" to #1 two years later. Of course, she is the daughter of
the late Dottie West, who passed in 1991. Shelly had 10 charted songs on
the charts from 1983-1986 as a solo artist and charted 11 duets with
David Frizzell from 1981-1985. Terri Gibbs charted 13 solo songs from
1981-1987;now I believe she is recording gospel/contemporary christian
music.

"Jose Cuervo" was done by Shelly West. She's not Canadian and not blind,
and is the daughter of the late Dottie West. It was the #1 single of the
year in Billboard (in 1983?).

The artist you're looking for is Terri Gibbs. She is blind, but is not
Canadian. She's about 42 years old and is from Georgia. The song you
referenced is "Somebody's Knocking." It was a Top 20 country and pop single
and was nominated for Single of the Year at the CMA back in the early '80s.
If I recall correctly, she was the very first recipient of the CMA Horizon
Award. When country radio stopped playing her stuff, she went into
Christian music.

Actually, Shelly West, not Terry Gibbs, had the HIT version of "Jose
Cuervo".
