UPLOAD! description of Forman'S CASSETTE DEBRIS, F0056b-F0610

Key:
@ acoustic
# monaural long playing
$ stereophonic long playing
¢ compact disc
[...] Ignore, as a better copy is elsewhere among my cassettes, not
involving an intermediate tape.
-> exists on a CD transfer
Mset: Should be in the Columbia and Victor M set collections

[My UPLOAD! message for June contained only information for F0056b through
F0063b. The descriptions for F006a through F0610 are new.]

F0056B
Mset BRAHMS: Quintet 1, HOBDAY, 2 vc., BUDAPEST, V.M 466

F0057-58 CORTOT American Recordings did not list the contents of these
four cassette sides, which I got from the late Allen Mackler (who
dilligently collected them), which were later issued on more completely on
Biddulph LHW 014-15 and included four previously unrecorded titles. I do
recall that one of Allen's had one that had a different take that any of
those on Biddulph, but I could have copied down Allen's take information
incorrectly. Someone will have to do a dilligent comparison. I cannot
locate the Cortot supplement in one of Jim Cartwright's catalogs.

MAHLER: Sym. 4., Prince HIDEMARO KONOYE, cond.; Eiko Kitazawa, sop., Tokyo
New Symphony Orchestra. rec. 1930 May 28-30 in the Parlophone studio.
(bars 287-314 of the third movement cut). Original issue on Japanese
Parlophone E 10009-14. I do not know where my cassette came from! The next
known recording is the 1939 Mengleberg and is complete and is the best
recording of the work. The first complete studio recording is the Bruno
Walter from 1945. The performance has been equated to that of a high
school band. It is better than that. Konoye made a few other recordings
including a Beethoven 1st, iirc.

Toscanini Final Concert (as broadcast. His missed his place and NBC
broadcast the beginning of the Brahms first symphony for a few seconds
until Toscanini got back in control. What has been reissued on LP and/or
CD is what transpired in the studio. The cassette begins with
announcements and includes WAGNER: Tannhauser Ov., Meistersing Ov., and
maybe something else.

BACH: Cantata 78, sung in English. IFOR JONES, Bethlehem Bach Choir. Mr.
Mencken regularly went to Bethlehem, Pa., to hear the choir and wrote
lovingly of it. Afaik, this is the first and only recording of the choir
on 78s. Nothing on mono LP, but there is a stereo recording of the b Mass.

I wore out this record, which my dad gave me and also another Mercury of
the 1812 Overture, Deems Taylor's commentary on it and Beethoven's
Coriolan Over.

NOTE: At the end of F0507, I noted "END OF HEAVY DUTY TAPING, 1987 July 5
P.M. 6:42:17." In fact, I went on for another 2000 or so cassettes.
Ultimately, my swapping of tapes with collectors from six continents (none
from Anarctica, alas) wound down. I continued to C2464 in 1997. I
continued to buy compact discs, even a few after my cochlear implant
operation in 2007. After Bill Lampe's death, I asked for and got a couple
of thousand cassettes from his estate and carried out my promise to make
them available to the world. I concentrated mostly on the M-sets and those
that were not "fixed in sound" past 1976 (meaning LP and CD transfers).
Since then I learned that European copyright dates to the original music
making and so I could have uploaded a bunch of things Bill purchases on CD
and make cassettes. (His CDs were already gone by the time I wrote to his
estate.) Anyone who is "fit, willing, and able" to work with his cassettes
is welcome to them for the price of postage AND can give me assurance that
he will actually work through Bill's tapes. Too many times, someone is all
eager and gets tired by the fifth transfer.

THIBAUD: I put my entire collection of his recordings on these ten
cassette tapes. I'll try to find out, as best, as I can, what is on these
tapes. I have gotten small number of other recordings by him, most notably
nearly all his Pathé and Fontipia acoustics.

My notes say:
1a. ALBENIZ (2), BACH BBC 5 & Con. 2@
1b. Bach BBC 4; BEETHOVEN Con. (cond. by Thibaud, Szryng, v.; VIVALDI mvt.
1
2a. mov. 2-3; Beethoven Romance, Son 9:1
2b. :2-3; Archduke
3a. :3-4; Kakadu
3b. BRAHMS VC
4a. BRAHMS Double; Waltz 15
4b. CHAUSSON: Con.
5a. CHAUSSON: Poem; DEBUSSY (4)
5b. ECCLES; FALLA (2); FAURE (2), PQ2:1-3
6a. :3-4; Son. 1; FRANCK Son. @:1-2
6b. :3-4; FRANCK Son. (electric); GRANADOS (2)
7a. GRANADOS (2); HAYDN; LALO: 1-3
7b. LALO (4); LECALIR; MARSICK; MENDELSSOHN
8a. MOZART: Con. 3, Con. 5:1-2
8b. :3, Con. 6, Haffner: Rondo
9a. MOZART: Son. 26,34; PARADIES; PALDINI; RAVEL
9b. RIMSKY; RODE, S-S (2); SCHUBERT (2)
10a. SCHUBERT Trio 1; SCHUMANN Trio 1:1
10b. :2-4; SYZMANKOWSKI; VARACINI (2); VIEUXTEMPS; VITALI
This follow the order in Creighton pretty much exactly (except for the
Szyering, v., Thibaud, cond.), but I can't put my hands on the particular
sources that went into thses tapes.

8:45 spent on typing so far.
116 sides so far
102 sides to go
I'll be removing further items that consist of only Columbia and Victor
M-sets.

Hello Frank !

I'm Corentin Boissier, young French composer and musicologist. I'm studying at the National Superior Conservatory of Paris. I'm currently writing a thesis titled "The Mini Piano Concerto from the years 40-60 : a trend triggered by Richard Addinsell’s Warsaw Concerto". For this thesis, I'm searching for a sound recording of the "Poème rapsodique for piano and Jazz orchestra" (1935) by French composer and pianist Léon Kartun, conducted by Marcel Cariven (not Cariuen !). I see you have this rare recording. Could you please send me it ? If it's not the case, I would need to know the duration of the "Poème rapsodique".
I hope you'll be able to help me for my searches,
From Paris with Music,
Corentin Boissier
