We've just bought a brand new Honda Jazz/Fit whose sound system, according to the manual, will only play AAC files if they were created by iTunes. Well, I don't get anything from iTunes, my AACs are all converted from FLAC by dbPowerAmp, and the Honda system plays them perfectly happily. This comes as a considerable relief.

Why / how could iTunes have anything to do with whether a player could
play AAC files?

Ask Mr Honda.

I believe certain Acura's had gps systems that somehow required DVD-A
capability and therefore made surround sound available, so there may be
other seemingly inexplicable situations.

Does iTunes have a flag to keep track of how many devices can play a file?

With the Honda being Japanese, you're lucky it doesn't insist on vinyl.

(I have to admit I have an older Japanese car, and it
only accepts CD's.)

Our previous Jazz/Fit was the 2007 model and it only accepted CDs too. This is the 2015 model and it accepts CDs as well as MP3 and AAC files. Apple gets mentioned a couple of times in the Handbook - for example you can play videos on the touch screen but only of course when the car is stationery and you haven't anything better to do in a stationary car.

Reading the speedometer from right to left in kanji is still a little confusing but we're getting used to it.

My 2015 Mini Cooper came with an optional CD changer, according to the dealer I was the first purchaser to ever order one. It's labeled as a "DVD" player and I hoped the car would play videos on the car's distinctive round screen, but alas it's audio only.

I've lost track: do you also drive on the wrong side of the road
down there?

Not only that, the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car.

... and the entire vehicle is upside down, which made driving quite painful until seat-belts were invented.

That's most probably why its DVD player can't play DVDs.

(Perhaps the reason which causes water to swirl down a drain in the wrong
direction (counter-clockwise) has something to do with it.)
