self-taught.

I learned recently that he died early this year, which is a great tragedy
- he would have been only 21 or so.

Did he get out on the juggling circuit?
How far did he develop his juggling?
Do other Dallas-area jugglers know what happened to him?

I can only tell you what little I know of him (also check Rodney's
posting).

He popped in to our club (McKinney) once. He was very good, but...a
"new Rastelli"?(!). At least, he didn't have anything like a
performance style down; a precocious hobbyist. I didn't see him juggle
five in one hand--at our club, or at the Denton Festival--and question
whether he was capable of that!

But he was a pleasant chap and certainly a fun-loving fellow, which was
well-reflected in his juggling! He tought me a neat three-ball move. I
was a shocked to learn of his murder.

Was I unclear? I testify: I saw him do it. (With balls, not rings.) He
was using quite a bit of height (15' or so), so some indoor spaces would
not have worked. I thought, when I saw him, that he would have ten in a
year or so. I've never seen anyone else do 5 in one hand; have you?

That's still rather unclear. Please define "do". How many catches?

Did he "do" nine as well?

As to your question, yes, I've seen other people do 5 in one hand.
Apparently some (very few) can also do 6 in one hand.
(in this case "do" = 6 catches = a flash)

With regard to your last question, _I_ HAVE seen others do 5 in one
hand. I couldn't tell you exactly how many I've seen, but I would say
that I've seen 'several' others do 5 balls in one hand.

As a matter of fact, I saw 5 balls juggled in one hand just the other
day, although I couldn't actually see the person who was doing it
whilst he was doing it -- I could only just see the pattern. (And his
pattern kind of sucked at that, but he did manage to get to 10
catches. A lucky bastard he was, I'd say. :)

You seem to be saying here that you counted to 15 catches and then you
stopped counting while the juggler kept on juggling. Odd that, why
would you not count to the end of his run? Or are you just keeping
the _exact_ count secret to bait us? (Or maybe you're just
'estimating', is that it ?? ;)

I guess I have a bit of skepticism about all this too, testimony by
counsel Groover not withstanding.

Did he "try" ten as well?

I think there is a giant chasm to be leaped in order to get from 5
balls in one hand to 10 balls in two hands, and I'd be quite hesitant
to say that anyone could make that leap until I'd actually seen them
getting close to 20 catches with 10 balls. And I'd be even more
hesitant to anoint someone as the next Rastelli merely because I saw
them playing around with 5 in one hand. But others seem less hesitant
than I, and so be it. Besides, I always feel just a little bit
cheated if I don't get my daily dose of rec.juggling hyperbole.

I was a good friend of Dean Chisamore and Sam May until they were murdered Jan 9th, 1997. I can personally tell you that I once saw Dean juggle 7 pins when he was 17 or 18 yrs old. They were both amazingly fun, kind, and talented young men. Sam was one of my closest friends. Dean and I had not been able to see one another during much as he had been attending Stephen F. Austin University in Texas, a few hours away from where we grew up. Dean was home on a school break when he was killed. To answer your question, I do not believe he had much opportunity to juggle other than in his fleeting free moments for his, or our, amusement. After the trial I I learned from Dean's parents that he actually discovered a star for which he was honored by NASA. I cannot recall if it is named after Dean or if he was permitted to name it. I so much appreciate your post and for remembering him; it helps many. Dean and Sam were killed in The Bruegger's Bagels slayings by Stephen Dominick. Please contact me privately with questions:

Dean and I went to school together at SFA. He taught me so much during our time together... juggling balls, passing pins, piano, guitar, and much, much more. Because of Dean, I'm a better person. I miss you buddy.

I just found this forum and had no idea it existed. Sam and Dean where my best friends. We had been friends since we were little kids. I can't remember exactly but I think he did juggle five pins. He was an amazing juggler but it wasn't a professional thing for him. He just loved juggling. When he was 16 he took me to Dallas downtown to juggle and did it several times and every time he made a bunch of money with his black magic hat he had put on the ground and always a cop came by and made us leave because we didn't have a permit. I still miss those guys.
