I know any good juggler is able to figure out the intricacies of any complicated juggling move simply by watching a blurry video of it done once in poor lighting conditions, but I'm afraid even after attempting to dissect what few videos there are of helicopter throws with clubs, I still can't figure out how they're done.

My attempts don't spin fast enough, and don't rise high enough, which are both pretty bad things when juggling clubs. Does anyone have any advice or pointers on how the throw is actually done?

So far, I'm spinning the clubs anticlockwise from my right hand and vice versa with the left. I find it hard to get that action right at the same time as throwing vertically.

Thanks for your help!

I'm no expert at helecopters, but I always throw mine spinning clockwise
(when looking from above) from my right hand, and vice versa from the
left. Don't know how that effects the spin and height, but I always
found that had the handle spinning in the easiest way for the catch.

I spin them the same as you, so they spin in towards my face.
I'm far from competent at them but I have found that the throw requires the
arm more than normal; the arm provides the lift while the wrist and fingers
provide the spin.

I am quite curious to how the experts do it

Hi there,

I should just point out I don't really do helicopters myself, have worked on them a little bit in the past but not a lot. However, my understanding was the same as Varkor's in that the right hand throw should be spinning counter clockwise when thrown and clockwise from the left (when looking form above). I think I read that in a book somewhere, but I believe both of these guys do that:

As with everything in juggling, if it works for you then its not wrong, but just thought I'd share my thoughts (and post up these couple of cool videos!).

Blessings,

Mark
