Whats with the rare, strange sounding birth omans?
Like, umm...
"on the night you were born, a falling star killed the village elder"
And
"on the night you were born, a two headed calf was born on the same night"
And
"On the night you were born, your long lost brother showed up"
And
"on the night you were born, all the local undead were seen buying bus tickets
to Hoboken"

What on earth do these mean???

~Michael Burch
All this from someone who has never had a character above lvl18???
Yep. I really suck at this Game...

I appreciate this post is old but I might as well answer it now ADOM is being completed!

These randomly generated birth omens affect your character in subtle ways. The exact wording indicates in code what extra intrinsics this save file will have over a standard one.

"The local undead were seen packing up and moving away" - Undead flee from the character periodically and may take damage. Good for all except Necromancers.

"Your long lost brother showed up" - Greater chance of special locations being generated in dungeons (hives, shops, pools and so forth).

"A two headed calf was born" - Better dice rolls in your level-up skill increases. Possibly a doubled outcome?

"A falling star killed the village elder" - Not known for certain: Probably a bonus to proficiency with (a) missile weapon(s), possibly an attribute bonus.
