I'm confused....they have the license or they dont have the license
for this?
No they don't have the license yet; but think it would be a great one.
derek
Ah! Ok....yes, it would be cool.
Would probably be a rehash of NBA with a spinning shield instead of a
basketball and a magnet where his love interest would catch the ball
in her....
Another bad superhero movie/pinball machine with incomplete
software.....big f#$%$ng deal
I kind of agree with this. WHy do you think Stern is going to pump out
nothing but comic-book-superhero-to-movie themes? I think they already
overdid it with IM, SM, BDK in recent years. They should consider more
iconic/timeless themes rather than the 'flavor-of-the-month' movie
blockbuster theme. For example, BBH was a change of pace, tying in with
the popular video game series.
Personally, I'd like to see an internet/www theme. Or maybe fast food,
or even hockey (kind of WCS revisited, with power play mb, a shootout
with a moving goalie, etc.). Or (*gasp*) an original theme with great pf
layout and deep rules? I think games like MM, CV, AFM, WH20, etc. didn't
do so badly.

It's all licenses from here on out, which is fine, just finish the
software!!How old is BDK.... still not finished. It took 2 years + to
get SM done.Who knows what happens with IM.I usually get 1 machine a
year,and I spend about what it costs for a NIB Stern.....but I don't
buy new Stern games because of the software issue, total deal
breaker.I'm not dropping 4k on something that might never be
finished, and I'm not sitting around waiting.
Is "licenses only" a new Stern policy? I missed this info, even if it's
common knowledge now. Doesn't make total sense to me--licenses cost
extra $$$, and I dunno if it always increases marketability. (Then
again, I'm not an op or distributor. Maybe people buy pins now more for
the license than for the game.)
And when did this new trend of releasing games with unfinished software
start? Not that long ago, software updates were the exception.
But then I've been sick of em for years, you guys seem to eat 'em up.
THere is literally NO license that Stern could use right now that
would get me excited, except for genuine "retro" themes that we know
Stern will never in a million years do.
Licenses are lame. Stern is lame.
Same here. Never liked them.
This topic got beaten to death last year (then again, what hasn't been
beaten to death on RGP?). I think Gary Stern mentioned something
about it as well as some former employees. As far as cost, that was
brought up to be very minimal in the grans scheme of things. For
location games, kids don't want generic Joe Shmo crap, they want well
known titles to pump quarters in. That is what Stern Pinball is
shooting for.

This is based on absolutely no evidence. Why are MMs still on route?
Cause they make money.
Besides, "kids" don't pump shit into games anymore, these games are
made almost exclusively for bars these days.
Is it really confirmed that Avatar is next? I just don't get that. They did a
great job of getting IM out and on the streets before the movie hits theaters.
Avatar has come and gone, it's already releasing on DVD and Blu-ray now. How
does it make sense to do that theme now? And if they are doing it for a sequel,
didn't they take 6 years to make the first one?
I don't know, I guess maybe this is a more timely theme than releasing an Elvis
game 30+ years after he died, but it just seems like this boat has already
sailed. The public has a very short attention span, when this game comes out
(September?) aren't people going to be focused on the more recent blockbusters?

have you played iron man yet? Software only at .91 and it already
feels great and looks great
derek
Nope
What is the next Stern pin? Does anyone know for sure?
John
America! ****Yeah! :)
If a Team America pin was released, I would be in for a NIB one.
--Scott
Hate to burst your bubble, but there's no way Stern will do Captain
America! For one thing, they only do movies that have a sequel so
that they have more video/audio clips to use. Second of all the
director and lead actor are relative no names without a successful
track record. If the directer was James Cameron or Steven Spielberg
it might be a different story. Too much potential to bomb. If I were
a betting man i'd say that one of Stern's 2011 games will be
Transformers because the 3rd movie comes out next year. I personally
don't care for the movies, but it makes for a pretty darn good pinball
theme! I also think a video game theme such as Modern Warfare,
Bioshock, God of War, Halo, Little Big Planet, etc.. would be pretty
cool! Lots of money in video games! Modern Warfare 2 has earned well
over 1 billion dollars since it was released in the fall!
-Mike
Stern next summer?
They've already announced the "Captain America & The Avengers"
movie....which will have Iron Man, Thor, Cap, etc....it would make
more sense to do that one. It's a semi-sequel and is just cooler w/
all those characters.
I dunno whats with all the superhero backlash....they are themes that
have been successful for Stern, and lend themselves nicely to pinball
- ACTION ACTION ACTION!
Greg
MM is an exception. Just look at the going rate for purchasing them.
Put a Roadshow next to an Ironman at a movie theatre or pizza shop and
see what will get played. How well did CV do? I'm sure they wouldn't
have liquidated those NIB games if it was a money grabber (and I would
expect CV to do well with the flashy theme and neon). Whitewater....
a killer profit maker when sitting between a SM and BBH at Billy Bob
Bobby Bills Budweiser Bar? Theme is everything now and at a small
cost for licensing, hard not to do.
This is all conjecture. Absolutely no evidence exists to show that a
unlicensed pin, in 2010, will flop.
Stern hasn't made one in 10 years.

By the way Chris, I haven't seen a pinball machine at a pizza shop or
a movie theatre since Reagan was President.
Irrlevant.

Seriously? Thats the ONLY place I can find the damn things around here.
Serious as a heart attack.
You damn New Yorkers are so sheltered. Come up north and they are
still around.
We might not have evidence that it will/will not flop, but I would bet
Stern has done some sort of research on it. They have survived longer
than they should have, so they must be doing something right. Plus
Obama said in an interview on 8/27/2009 talking with Joe Bologna in an
unrecorded room that he loves playing licensed theme Stern titles as
they are super American, so how can you "the king of representing dems
on those crazy RGP political posts", "the sultan of putting Pinball
Rise of the Machines in his place", argue with that? :-)
Re-run POTC in time for the 4th film in May
Hangover 2 Pinball
Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors Pinball

I don't like that idea at all. Spiderman yes, Iron Man..well ok. However
I'd rather see a "Hot Tube Time Machine" pinball...I think that would be a
lot more fun.
And maybe even better...
a "Kick Ass" pinball machine. That would kick ass!
Barney
No new POTC. Gary said it was the most expensive pin they've ever run
and won't be run again.
As far as licenses vs. non themed, based on my limited op exposure (I
don't do it for a living). Licensed pins beat unlicensed ones. Is that
due to age? Or truly the license drawing people in? I mean if you put
most B/W pins up against a new Stern, the newer pin is brighter (Stern
does a good job of keeping the pf bright) and usually in better
condition so I'm sure that has some effect as well.
I guess the only way to really tell is put a NIB MM up against a NIB
Spider-Man. I'd be willing to run the test if anyone would lend me a
NIB Medieval. :)
Man that kool aid gets around.
Andrew
They kind-of did with the Grand Prix version of Nascar/Dale Jr. True, it was
originally meant for overseas, but that seemed to slip after a while
(especially with it available in Canada).
- Dan
Because they are paid off...
New equipment sales are low.
Andrew
IMO.

Please no more comic book super hero pins. Mix it up a bit. Hollywood
is already trying to shove this genre down my throat. I want more
variety.
Mark
atl, ga
Or just not watch them. Either way.
