Am I missing something here?
Between the huge ugly mug of angus on the playfield and both of the gawd
aweful limited edition backglasses coming up, why is angus the center of
attention? What about the other band members.

I gotta say I'm really disappointed in the artwork for this pin. I would
have loved to have seen something energetic showcasing all the band
members like gnr.

I sure hope the game plays like a champ, because it isn't winning over
my heart on the artwork.
Is anybody else with me on this?

To be fair. Angus is AC/DC's man. No bodies fault he ain't better looking.

And being it's a licensed game, AC/DC may have a say in what goes where and
what gets used.

Just up to Stern ( Steve Ritchie ) to make the game awesome.

it's always been that way. Look at the AC/DC album covers, they all
feature angus. Why would this be any different?

Have you been to an AC/DC concert? It's all about Angus! Brain Johnson
does hit bit every now and then but he is the lead singer. You'd
hardly notice Malcolm Young , Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd hanging out
into the background.

How many covers with only angus on it?
For Example:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4kmWshRvwq4/Sw0ZYryOvQI/AAAAAAAAAD4/UFP_bo5Vzc4/s320/stiff+upper+lip.jpg

GuitarHero (Rock Star^^) Game Cover...only Angus Young.

I'm a fan, not the greatest fan of the world, but I have all albums
and watched the dvds a hundred times with friends. I have no problem
with the artwork so far. I realy like it. I will get a LtbR LE, the
only thing I don't like is the fake damage on the cabinet side decals,
not so good for LEs. But if the band wants it so......

Brian Johnson isn't really the frontman of AC/DC, Angus is, as anybody
who has ever attended one of their concerts can attest to.

He's the focal point of the group, and at least since Bon Scott died,
always has been.

Agree. While Angus and their music (all 3 chords) ain't exactly
pretty, that's kinda the whole point. If you want a pretty and
sophisticated music pin, get a Yo Yo Ma pin. The uproar over sneer
Angus is stupid. Rock and roll has a long history of sneering (Mick
Jagger, Bill Idol, etc..) and Angus' mug does a damb fine job of it.
If you don't like sneer Angus, you aren't a fan of rock and roll.

I am an ACDC fan. Saw their show in Detroit a couple of years ago.
Haven't played the pin yet, so can't render an opinion.

The old saying "Be careful what you wish for" has come true for this
pin IMHO. Everybody clamoring for an AC/DC pin and when it finally
shows up, people complain about how ugly it is. What can you say?
They are a bunch of ugly dudes!

Next thing you know Gary will build a Motorhead pin and put Lemmy's
face right in the middle of the play-field with a rollover target for
his giant mole. People will complain how ugly it is.

Agreed on the butt ass ugly images used, the lame lower PF on the LE,
and the full length songs that will become hated by even the best/ardent
ACDC fan over playtimes. The Ang-u-loss is the only notable 'character'
in the band, and via pinball presented its what may/will/likely sell to
what is left of the aging/dying ACDC fanbase.

It is more than 30 years after the hallmark release of Back in Black.
Even back in 1980, I don't think anybody would say they were up for

In short I don't think Angus or AC/DC cares if we think the artwork is
"fugly"

In fact I could see Angus pissed off that the snarl was not bigger.

As a huge classic rock fan, I like AC/DC..... I just can't stand to hear
MOST of their radio hits anymore. I've heard them so many times over
the years that I've tired of them. It's not that I don't think that
they are good songs, I just would prefer to hear something else that I
haven't heard a million times already. I prefer listening to

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UPw4f1oN7g&ob=av2e

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9iOk8PqkKs

To top that off, I prefer Bon Scott - AC/DC. I wouldn't expect to see
him on the pin instead of Brian Johnson though, seeing as how he is dead
and Brian still sings for AC/DC.

And I do agree that the artwork is pretty bad, but I wouldn't expect
much creativity from Stern at this point. And none of the band members
are too easy on the eyes, so you are pretty much stuck looking at ugly
old rockers no matter who they focus on :(

Thanks all for your replies. I guess I learned something new about
AC/DC. Yeah, I've heard a lot of their hit songs. But I've never owned
an album or realized that Angus is totally in the spotlight of that
band. I just thought it was strange that he is getting so much of the
artwork dedicated to 1 man in the band opposed to the other guys.

I was talking to one of my friends yesterday who ordered an LE and he
said he was surprised that on the "Let there be rock" backglass the
drummer is completely missing from the backglass and covered by Angus.

Hey ya learn something new everyday. I'm just saying I'm really
surprised with the art package they have chosen on this pin. It once
again goes to show, when you do a licensed piece, you are handcuffed by
what you can and can't use.

I wouldn't say 'handcuffed.' In this case, the artwork and emphasis is
entirely appropriate to anyone who is into AC/DC. (Although some may
have selected another view of Angus for the main pf!) There are limits
on how a license is used, as artwork has to be approved by the owner,
but that is true for any licensed product.

Well if they want the Lemmy version with moles, Stern could just re-
release Orbitor 1 without the clear plastic over the surface, change
the art, add some music and be good to go.

Talk about a guy who does not care about fashion. Lemmy is the MAN!

It is probably possible that when a band's music is overused, they
become 'less cool' - when you hear them on the radio for the same songs
for 30+ years, in multiple movies, commercials, video games, billboards,
all over, they become 'less special' and more of the lowest common
denominator.
Note - this list is only about half of the tv shows and movies that used
AC/DC song(s) - include that to their mega platinum album sales over
30-40 years, radio airtime, video games, etc etc and you probably get
where I'm coming from on this.

The question becomes - why? Certainly the music is good - but after
hearing it every day for 30-40 years doesn't it become tired and old?
Doesn't anyone ever want to listen to Scorpions in a movie for once? Or
perhaps some other group might get a shot to be in a film or two besides
the same old same old replayed song? Does it take too much creativity
to try something new, anything new?

For me AC/DC is the only band that I am never tired to hear. They stay
cool. I have a little pub and when I don't know what to play for my
guests, because there are young and old people there, AC/DC is one of
the bands that will never be wrong to play. I don't know why but the
music is cool young and old. It's Rock N Roll!

My pub is in a little town in germany, but cause of a university with
many guest students, last week there was a night when there where
people from very different corners of the world as guests in it.
Siberia, Turkey, France, Canada, India, Croatia....and so on. Then i
played ....highway to hell.....and the whole crowd started to sing.
It was great.
There are other bands and songs that work too: Queen, Beatles, Blues
Brothers and so on (Time Warp from the Rock horror picture show works
great^^) but its extra cool with AC/DC because they are wild and
fun.

Fun? no, now it's about commercialization, selling out to the highest
bidder, maximizing profits, and screwing the customer unless they pay
the premium. It's about the entire package - the art, the number of
slots in the coin door, the rules, the originality of the layout...etc

Consumers have been forced to pay more for a game so they demand more
for their hard earned dollar. If the game provides value for the money,
then everyone is happy today - plain basic fun just doesn't make the cut
anymore.

If I wanted to listen to AC/DC I could spend the $10 for a CD and get
better quality than this machine provides. If you remove the music (as
music isn't important because nobody hears it on location anyway) the
game is just a rehash of T2's layout, with worse less imaginative rules
based on the instruction card on PinballNews.

First there is complain about that you could see a picture of Angus on

Than when this is out the way somebody comes and "If you remove the
music (as
music isn't important because nobody hears it on location anyway)".
Hey????? Do you all like to make the things that are great in your
hobby down?
I as a bar owner KNOW that AC/DC is as a theme a HIT! the Pro will do
great in bars!
As a pinhead, I know that the layout of the LE looks like fun. The
toys are looking great.I can't wait to play mine.

It seems to me that the overwhelming majority don't like the overall
art package for the game, and even less like the face. I'm a fan of
AC/DC, and I was really looking forward to it, but the second I saw
that playfield and that face.....yeesh!! I actually thought that
someone was playing a joke and had photoshopped that face in there,
they couldn't really be serious could they! I have no problem with
the sneer, HTH is a classic album cover, but they picked crappy
images, and a crappy color pallette for the game IMO.

It seems like you're talking out both sides of your mouth here...

If the entire package is up to the expectations of the consumer, which
unless I'm wrong would include for many people that the game should be
*fun*, then it isn't screwing the customer.

Hey, I said before that the Pro model looks really light and I was
worried about it compared to the Premium model, as probably my only
shot of playing one is if someone gets the Pro model and routes it.
Since I said that, I have heard from someone who played the Pro model
and was pleasantly surprised by just how much fun it was. I have no
clue if that will translate to coin drop or not, but if the Premium
models sell and the Pro model makes money for operators, it doesn't
matter what they are priced at -- it just matters that they meet the
customer's expectations.

That's no different than just about anything that you sell. If it is
priced too high, it won't sell, and by all indications ACDC isn't
priced too high.

> Consumers have been forced to pay more for a game so they demand more

What is it that you expect that customers expect above and beyond a
great game with their money for this then? I don't get it.

I think you're wrong here -- music on location is huge, and the
popular ACDC tunes remain popular to play in bar settings to this
day. I don't think that I've ever been to a wedding that hasn't
played "You Shook Me All Night Long" and I can't think of ONE other
rock song they play. Ever. The music is really important to these
games, and I do think is a big selling point of them. I think that
you could see bars that put one of these out to turn them up and use
them as a mini-ACDC jukebox. That right there is worth something.

As for the actual game, I condemned it too right away, but have since
heard otherwise from people. I'm going to hold off hope that an
operator around here gets one, as I would love to play it. I'd
*really* like to play the LE, but I just don't think that will be in
the cards...

The actual quote from Steve Ritchie was -
"The system isn't stereo, because true stereo means double memory, and
the difference while playing a stereo game is negligible. It has been
tried and tested at Williams, and the truth is, no one cares. There
has never been enough separation between the speakers to fully utilize
stereo. Stereo has never added anything to the coinbox."

But obviously some people care. By saying there isn't enough
separation, it means that he thinks 'most people' can't hear the
difference, so it's not important enough. That's what I get out of that
anyway. It would help if the sample rate was higher though as a CD
still sounds better. - Maybe include a cd player in their next pinball
machine - that would save a whole lot of space in the game code and
works rather well for some machines (Metallica - and 8-track Playmatic
sounds better)
