Week 2 for the RGPL after a busy week last week when 63 players posted
scores.

This week there is a contest for the most entertaining/funniest/
interesting post. The winner gets to choose between a new TZ clock
board, a set of Pin Footies, a Glare Guard or some zit cream. No
other rules, just post a great post about your games.

May the best pinballer win.

Oh yeah, I'm the judge and my sense of humor is decidedly abnormal.

I'm doing a kitchen renovation and have moved my machines into the
dining room as I shuffle stuff throughout the house to accommodate
stuff that I'm clearing before doing tilework on the floor.. There's
drywall dust and fiberglass all over the place. I've got walls torn
down and holes in the ceiling where work is being done and insulation
is exposed. So I donned a mask and at first tried to pull the plastic
off the machines, but I remembered if I did that, I would have a
helluva time putting the plastic back over the machines because
they're all pushed against a wall in the far end of the room, book-
ended with a new fridge and other furniture. Now if I had one of
those robotic arms like they have on the space shuttle, it would have
been no problem, but I didn't, so I thought it best to crawl under the
plastic and try to play the games.

So there I am, wearing a respirator, underneath the plastic, and go to
start Fish Tales and realize that there are no credits in the machines
and my keys are in some unmarked box. So now I'm on a quest to find
quarters -- I usually don't keep the machines on free play. This way
I'm motivated to recycle my pocket change and I usually put the coins
into some pinball fund that goes for something for the machines. Ok,
I find some quarters and fire up a game.

I'm on the first ball and it's going well, then the power goes out.
I'm like "what?" Then it comes back on, so I put my second quarter in
the game and start playing. Then the front door opens and it's the
contractor who was working on the outside electrical. At this point,
I'm wearing a respirator, underneath a pile of plastic playing
pinball. All he can see is some kind of weird distorted image of a
guy covered in plastic wrap wearing some kind of mask.

"I'm working on the electrical and ... um, what are you doing?"

"I'm playing pinball."

"Biggest fish I ever saw!"

"Biggest what?"

"I'm playing pinball"

"Lie!"

"No I'm not lying, I'm working on the electrical. I need to shut the
power off."

"Ok, can you give me a second?"

"It's a feeding frenzy!"

"Um, are you ok? Did I catch you at a bad time? Is there someone
else there with you?"

"No, I'm playing pinball. You've heard of pinball?"

"Are you gonna talk or you gonna fish?"

"I'm going to go outside and wait for you to finish whatever. Let me
know when I can shut the power off..."

I let him do his work on the electrical and decided to play Genie
instead:

Well.. One good game, one terrible game.

Played the whore that is Pin*Bot this weekend. First game went great.
Kept a "multiball" alive for quite some time and kept nailing Solar
Values. Managed to get 3/4 of the way around the solar system and was
doing generally decent. Managed a score of 6,190,910.

After the first game, I decided why not play another. I did decent so
maybe I can replicate it.

First ball, I did not even get a chance to hit. Scored 5K on the
Vortex ramp, bounced a bit in the pop bumpers and BAM! drained right
down the center.

Fired up ball two, for another 5K on the vortex ramp. Bounced a bit in
the pop bumpers and a slap save kept the ball in play. Hit it up to
try and nail the moving light and open pinbot's visor and another slap
save was needed. Awkwardly nailed it towards the blue ramp with very
little momentum and back down it came.. Drained.

Third ball Was not any better. Went for the blue ramp, nailed it
twice, went for a third time to build my multiplier and nailed the
post. Sailed right back down the center. Managed a 248,270.

Moral of this story:
Pinbot is a twofaced whore. It'll love you one minute, but then go
give a blowjob to your buddy.

First game started out with a whopping one million point ball,
followed by a decent second ball that got me an extra ball, followed
by the amazing third ball where it all came together and I got all the
THIRTY MILLION action goin' on. Alright, so it wasn't THAT much
action, but it's more action than you're ever gonna get.

This weeks mediocre game scores brought to you by EARTHSHAKER:

G1: 14,275,110
G2: 8,017,750

I practiced all week on ES, and at times even thought about switching games
I sucked so badly. Most scores were under 1M. For some reason this game
really bothers my wrists when I play it. This time was no different. All
week I was planning on playing and posting on Sunday, but I don't think my
wrists would make it till then. So after one practice game tonight, and
another suck ass game, I decided this was it.

Game 1 would have been better. As soon as I hit the Replay score...WHACK!!!
The knocker scared the shit out of me and I lost the ball! Damn! I sucked
so badly all week, I forgot about that friggin' knocker...oh well. :-)

Embryon:

757,980 (w00t!)

The first score was just a few thousand shy of the house high score,
so I was pretty psyched. The left "outlane" did me in on game 2. I
gotta say, the RGPL is making pinball much more fun to play!

No exciting story's from me this week just another shameless plug!
Again played the JM that will be the Grand prize machine for 2010
Portland Pinbrawl @ Ground Kontrol on April 18 2010. Opted to go with
no warm ups this week just jump in and sink, turns out that worked
better for me than last weeks warm up run.

Game 1
4,672,964,230

Game 2
3,866,521,320

This Johnny is set up for tournament play right now, very steep &
fast, very tight, no EB's, with a fairly fresh rubber kit. It play's
fast with a very lively bounce! Super fun, a little frustrating but
fun all the same. I just want to break 10bill before it goes (which is
about my average score on some of the route JM's around Portland) My
friend Eric who shopped this machine holds the GC on it at 33bill a
score that haunts me. Why must I drain every time I light the spinner
why why?????

Damn you keanu Mnemonic !!!!

closed...long story, I won't go into all the details, but it had a
board that only wanted to boot if there was light shining on one
particular chip, but it would boot fine on a tester...(I have video to
prove it!!)
So anyway, get it going, and decide ok we will play Eight Ball for a
different game for RGPL...before the guy comes to pick it up...go out
and play our games...and then check out the q-fied games, and lo and
behold Eight Ball is not one of them...so my week is still going bout

Head down to play a couple games that I know are q-fied...turn on

Lar had a great practice game, so I am thinking...ok I might have a
chance to beat him for league...(Yeah Right!!) ;-)
Declare that these are the games...
first game going well...Lar drains the first 2 balls and has a sub
million game going into the 3rd ball...I am stoked cause I am doing
ok, and have a million game going...last ball drains on me after
coming out of the pops and going down the outlane!! ;-(
My score was 1,295,860

Thought you might get a kick out of this. So after submitting my JM
scores yesterday (and feeling ok about them) I go into the basement
today to get a little practice in turn on Johnny hit start and proceed
to have the best ball 1 I have ever had! Maxed 4x with hold bonus,
completed throwing spikes, an ok spinner millions, 4 modes down, 2
balls locked (with 1 awarding bonus). and frenzy's hanging on both
orbits. ball1 14+bill. ball 2 played touchtone MB followed by lock MB
(Neither MB went very well however), double frenzy went quite well,
then finally my first "Power Down" ever (5bill PD), followed by
another locked ball awarding bonus, then a nasty drain. After ball 2-
25+bill. Ball 3 not very exciting with nothing really lit anymore hard
to start over, tacked on a few more bill with it but still came up
short of the GC of 33bill to finish with a #1 score of 27+billion,
320G Cyberpunk, 5+bill Powermaster! I'm sure this would not have
happened if I hadn't already played my games for the week....Never

Hey, no, no - 'cause you didn't beat the GC score. A yellow box is a
new GC score.

You got 12 points via 11 points for being more than 500% of median
PLUS one point for variety (playing a different machine than last
week).

No one gets a point for their GC score until the end of the 5 weeks.
If someone's GC score is STILL the GC score at the end, they get a
bonus point.

I decided to play JM and AFM.

I figured I better warm up on JM because basically I suck at the game
and don't play it nearly enough. So my warm up game:
I play the first ball and have completed 3 modes quickly (and hitting
almost all the shots for each mode). Pick up an extra ball. Then
drain.
Play my first extra ball and keep up the same pace. I finish the rest
of the modes, play multiball, have a Yakuza strike, play Frenzy, and
then hit Power Down. Play a good Power Down and drain shortly there
after.
A couple more decent balls and I complete 2 or 3 more modes, but
finish the game with 15 Billion. Easily my game's GC by about 5
Billion. Now I know that I'm going to play my *real* game like crap.

JM 993,507,880 - I swear the balls had eyes. The last ball was
plunged, went into the pop bumpers, bounced off the slingshots and
went down the right outlane. Brutal.

I move onto AFM, figuring I'll play at least a decent game on that
one. I've been pulling 20-30 Billion games out on a regular basis and
the replay score had crept up really high (24 Billion) for a while.
All I gotta say, is the Alien's kicked my butt and I didn't even pick
up the two extra balls I had stacked at SOL.

AFM 1,805,847,690 - This time the Aliens really enjoyed killing me.

Yes, apparently I suck.

Bryan
PS. If anyone has some strategy for getting the ball out of the pop
bumpers better on JM, let me know. I think that's probably what's
killing my scores. Good games, it lands on a flipper quick, bad games
it goes out a hole.

Played Taxi at home today. Warm up game was 800k - I was scared
already.

Game #1: Ball one 100K skill shot some C-A-B letters and...gone!
Game #1: Ball two 75K skill shot (x2), some C-A-B letters for 3X
multiplier and...gone!
Game #1: Ball three 100K skill shot (x3), tons of C-A-B letters (5X)
eventually lighting and scoring the EB. 4-5 multiballs but two of them
last less than 10 seconds (one ball came of the habitrail to the
outlane) - only one jackpot but a full 4M.

Game #1Final score: 9,043,650

Typed the above right away - off to play game #2 then I'll finish this
post.

OK, instead I'll report each ball as it happens...play-by-play pinball
if you will...

Game #2: Ball one SS:75k not much else 162K so far - ouch!

Game #2: Ball two SS:75k (x2) lots of play started two mb's but
couldn't lock & load for full mb action 1,760,820, better but need a
big ball three carrying 4 passengers though - big help if I can score
the jp!

Game #2: Ball three SS:100k (x3), locked ball after scoring C-A-B, SS:
100k (x3) started mb, lost one quick, lit jackpot - lost the other
one *poof* it's over....

Game #2 Final score: 2,660,600

Then, as if to taunt me, I match 00 and the machine seemingly
celebrates my tragedy that was game two with all the lights and bells
going off!

I need a tissue and a hug...waaaaahh!

Well, no long story for me this week. I've been finishing the kitchen
lighting remodel all weekend so I just ran upstairs a few minutes ago
to play a couple quick games. Decided to go in cold and see what
happened. Played Breakshot and first game had me a little worried. I
only got 1,754,340, so I was hoping the second game would go a little
better. Well, it did. Second game score 11,273,180. Now back to the
kitchen cleanup. I'd actually rather play pinball more, but I've been
living in drywall dust for too long....but I never needed a repirator
to play my pins though! :)

Aye, there once was a young pinball tech, blubbo was his name. He was
stricken. His beloved Medieval Madness was quite ill, in fact, his
right flipper was stuck up during play. Shutting down the game, the
flipper dropped. Ah! Likely electrical not mechanical. To be sure,
young blubbo lifted to the playfield to see the flipper was indeed
free. Aye, likely electrical. Next, blubbo, knowing the flipper was
stuck electrically, the coil may be shorted or the dreaded, massive
Tip36 and possibly the Tip102 hold transistor. Ruling out the
solenoid, Blubbo could not get his meter on the two suspect
transistors to check if they were shorted (ye olde WPC95 power board
has very tight transistor placement!!). Blubbo sighed and removed the
power board. Checking the transistors showed they seemed ok. Hmm,
thought blubbo. I should consult the oracle, www.marvin3.com. After
clicking through some magical 'links', the oracle stated that the
flipper switch can cause the problem. Of course! It could be stuck.
Young, but foolish blubbo, looked inside the cabinet and to his horror
and delight saw a broken flipper opto interrupter!! Ah indeed!! Oh
no! I can't possibly have any spares of this simple part. Up to the
basic parts box where many wonders live. Digging, digging, down,
colored bulb condoms, 3 battery battery holders, blue flipper rubbers,
no interrupters but there! At the bottom of the box, a small bag with
4 wonderful flipper opto interrupters!! About 5 minutes later after
replacing the flipper switch and power board, push the on bottom, hit
the start button (fingers crossed!), no stuck flipper!! The
inexperienced, but humble blubbo tech, although foolish, and inept
repaired his beloved game.

Then young blubbo rampaged the castle of the Duke of Bourbon, Earl of
Ego, Sir Psycho, Lord Howard Hurtz, Francois de Grimm, ravaged their
princesses, threw cats at their castles, an beat up their trolls.
Alas, young blubbo came two small shots from destroying the King of
Paynes dreaded castle gate on his way to 79,871,900 points. In a
follow up effort, young blubbo came back down to earth with a
28,816,620 score, not so much a ravaging but merely a failed siege.

Elvira and her party monsters joined my home on Saturday.
I really enjoy the ramps on this game. I must have played her 20
times on Saturday. I even set the high score twice. The first time
was on my second game when I scored 7.5 million to beat the previous
owner's 6 million high score.
I then beat my high score again with 10.7 million.

I spent most of today working on my honey do list.

I then decided to try a few practice games on Elvira And The Party
Monsters, i.e. EATPM. I play about 5 games and then start my
tournament.

During my first game, Elvira's humor and sexiness acted as my muse as
I beat my own high score. Since the ELVIRA letters reset after each
game, I was very proud of the 3 million earned spelling her name.

Game #1: 12,532,300

But then Elvira showed how she could be a cruel, cruel Beyotch. My
outlanes are as wide as possible, and she decided to play her favorite
sadistic game "drain down the left outlane" ... TWICE without giving
me the opportunity to touch the ball with my flippers. A weak flipper
shot up the middle spelled doom for me on my second ball as the ball
failed to make the ball capture and decided to come back straight down
the middle. She did give me the slightest joy of barely touching the
pinball with my right flipper. As I said.. Beyotch.

Game #2: 406,070

TZ: 97,343,970 -- I GOT POUNDED. No timed ball save = 2 of the 3
balls quickly drained with less than 3 million on each. OUCH!!! On
ball three, I was able to do a little better by defeating the power
for 25m and keeping the ball alive markedly better than the previous
two balls.

The Shadow: 491,506,040 I ended up completing a couple scenes, got
the Khan multiball and did very well on the Battlefield. Not as
nearly fast as my JM pin, but this machine is crazy fast.
