Yeah there were fewer games at Expo this year (not that many less
though), but IMHO, there were more nice WORKING games this year than
the past 2, and to me that is more important that there is actually
WORKING games there than non working games just taking up space...but
you can't play them.
I don't know about all of them, but I do know that mine had a few
issues that we tried to take care of ASAP (in your video my husband is
fixing one of ours, FirepowerII kept reseting, finally traced it to a
connector on the CPU and swapped it out) sometimes that is possible
and sometimes it isn't. We try to come prepared and bring spare
EVERYTHING imaginable that could possibly go wrong, and still they
sometimes come up with a new issue that we didn't think of. Our friend
brought an Eight Ball, and it had an Alltek board in it...something
happened to it, and he swapped it out with another new one, and it
still messed up...so he had to bring it back home to trace what the
issue is...
I understand your plea in the video to bring games because that
is the only way Expo can continue...I would hardly call it a luxury to
bring 16 games, and I'm pretty sure my back will agree...plus with the
added PITA load in and out policy from the hotel of having to maneuver
through the bowels of the hotel to get the games from the loading dock
to the free play area with hotel employees yelling at you and telling
you NO you need to go this way next time when that was the way you
were personally showed how to go...is really unnecessary, and I would
be willing to guess that if that particular issue is not "fixed" by
next year...there will be fewer games then as well...:-(
We enjoy bringing games, and the compliments and thank yous make
it worth while. I am not sure I will attempt 16 again, that was quite
a task....it pretty much took a whole day to unload set up, and then a
whole day to break down and load up again...I hated to start breaking
them down as early as we did on Sun. but with the load out policy the
way it was, we had to get them broken down then jockey for a spot with
the trailer to get them loaded at the loading dock...The Westin is a
very nice hotel, but I think of the 4 years Expo has been here, it has
also been the only year that I really felt UNWELCOME...It seemed that
the hotel staff went out of there way in general to make it difficult
and just really seem like they didn't want us there...My husband had
it out with a security guy when we were unloading, because he kept
closing the loading dock door on us (and it was NOT our choice to be
forced to unload this way in the first place!), and it was tough
enough to load in that way with a game on a dolly, then having to stop
and prop open doors at the same time was nuts!! Then in general, in
the past the staff has been constantly cleaning in the free play room,
and there was never a shortage of garbage cans...this year, they just
left it...I finally tracked one down and picked up all the packing
materials that were piled by the door near my games and filled it up,
but I still NEVER saw hotel staff in there even trying to keep cans
empty...so there was garbage just here there and everywhere that folks
set it down.
A big thank you to everyone who brought games cause as has been
said before without them there would be no show!!
