Tried rubbing alcohol. No luck. Didn't try anything else yet.

Use a dry erase marker on it and wipe it off - it works on Sharpies!

Use a marker to erase a marker? Interesting.

Send a maniac to catch a maniac!

The original idea was to get Sharpie/permanent marker off of a dry
erase board, I think it may well apply here too .

I've seen a lot of "permanent" markers that can be cleaned with a bit of
soap/dish detergent and water or bleach on a q-tip.
It may not work in your case, but easy to try.

I tried the Novus 2 and the dry marker with zero results. Either I
have a prototype PF or someone used a super sharpie.
I've read that chalk gets sharpie off most surfaces but I know that it
is abrasive and don't really want to risk it. Anyone ever try this
method?

For some reason Goof Off does NOT (in my experience) remove playfield
ink. I have used it on an EBD and BlackHole playfield to remove mylar
glue. I wouldn't have tried it at first unless the playfield was
expendable, but it worked great.

Of course, your mileage may vary, but I think the goof off "problem"
is an urban legend.

I want to make sure I am doing this right...cover the sharpie marks
with a dry erase marker...let dry...wipe off. Correct?
How long do you let it dry?

Don't let it dry.

Could be since they have many more types now
http://www.goof-off.com/
It only used to be a graffiti/paint remover product....

"Goof Off® Graffiti Remover is specially formulated to cut through
spray paint, ink, crayon"

Try a Magic Eraser dampened with some Novus 1. Does wonders for those
ground-in ball swirls.

Lighter fluid takes off sharpie. But it might be bad for the PF too.
Test on something else, first.

I had some good luck with isopropyl alcohol getting off the magic
marker, but it was the strong stuff (not the 20% from the pharmacy).
I tried goof off on my road kings sides that someone's kids turned
into an art project. It worked... but it also discolored the red a
little bit. I guess if you use it quickly and magic eraser your heart
out you might not have the same problem, but it took me about 5 passes
to get it all off.

I tried it without letting it dry and it didn't do a thing. Other guy
said to let it dry first then wipe.

I have never had any issues as all with goof off on a PF. My
disclaimer is that this is with Gottlieb EMs shot with or sporting
their original lacquer. In fact, I have had to remove massive acrylic
goof ups with goof off. IMO goo gone is often not as effective.

One the other hand, I will not use denatured alcohol and magic erasure
on my PF. I have had numerous incidents where the PF suddenly turned
to goo under the alcohol ME treatment.

If you are wondering how it will work on your particular playfield,
try it under the arch or apron and see.
