Agree with this - the possibility of fraud ruins the post sale process
for everyone.
But, Ebay's strength is NOT in the sale process itself (clearly :)).
Its in the exposure your item is given. Many times i have listed items
on Msg boards that wouldnt sell, Ebay ALWAYS sells at price (and even
then some!).
That is why a Nationwide engine, without a formal sales process in
place is needed - exactly like CL but at a nation level. Think of it
like this:
-- Those selling in bulk will stick with Ebay / Amazon. On the Pin
side, those sellers can list their pins at Retail pricing.
-- Those selling locally only stick with CL.
-- Those that want the nation coverage that can handle the sales
process themselves use this "new" service.
When one searches for an item, they can check all three. The new
service could potentially take ALOT away from Ebay. Even instill an
auction like capacity. If the winner negs out, go to next in line,
etc. But the post sales process is just like CL - face to face, no
policing. Let the users run the operation.
It would work, i cant see why not. In fact, its how Ebay USED TO be.
The only catch is gaining ground with something like that, takes time.
The history of CL is probably the best example of how to gain that
recognition.
Right there - is a million dollar idea :)
Just need a spark to get that going, CL would be perfect for it, its a
trusted name. Not sure why they are localized, dont know the history
or make up of the company enough to know.
