I was just reading a previous post that mentioned maybe The Mummy
license would make a good pin and it got me thinking a little bit.

What do you guys think was an OBVIOUS license for a machine that
SHOULD have been made, but never was.

I would cast a vote for Beetlejuice... You could have cool things
like a ramp that when you hit it you hear "Beetlejuice". The 2nd time
you hit the ramp, the voice is little more excited and loud, and the
third time you hit the ramp, you get a two ball multiball or light
some other mode... perhaps even a Beetlejuice toy that comes out when
you do this. Maybe you'd have to do this consecutively, or every time
you hit the ramp you have 10 seconds to hit it again.

Another mode could be something based around scaring the people out of
the house, maybe hitting some targets or something.

How about a Ghostbusters machine? That would've been awesome.

What licensed machines do you think should have been made?

Ghostbusters certainly would have had far more commercial appear than

I honestly do not know why Pee Wee's Playhouse was never made into a
pin. The license is so obvious and just begs to be a pinball machine.
All the toys and characters and all the weird parts of the playhouse.
Hell, they probably could have put one IN the playhouse on the show
for promotion. "Pinball" could have been the day's secret word!
Imagine kids across america sitting at home screaming for pinball...

My one dream pin. Sadly never happened. I would have sprung big bucks
on that one.

Just not the repetitive gameplay from it right :-)

I always thought a Battlestar Galactica pin would have
been cool back in the day. I was talking to someone just
the other day in fact, when they told me they had a BSG
pinball machine. Took me a minute or two to digest what
I had heard, but realized quickly he had it confused
with another machine. Star Trek, Star Wars, BSG... some
people think its all the same. I find it really odd when
you ask someone what pinball machines they have and they
can't remember the names of them. Especially when they
only have one!! lol Happens a lot actually.

So, back to a BSG pintable... the whole Cylon/robot thing,
cool looking ships and Lorne Greene! lol This was a very
popular show back then. Wonder why it was never pursued.
Come to think of it, I do not believe there was even a
video game fashioned after it...

The Three Stooges (Curly). Everything else is a distant second. The
backglass shows the heads of Moe, Larry, and Curly against the
Paramount backdrop just like the beginning of every episode. You put
your coins in, and the opening theme begin -- NaNaNa, NaNa, Naa,
NaNaNa........ Think of the classic sounds everytime you hit
something. Imagine "Woob, woob, woob...." everytime the ball races
around a ramp. Think of the wisecracks. Stooges, there is no
substitute.

Unfortunately, the fact it only lasted one season before it was
cancelled probably had something to do with it.

I agree with animal house. Any party theme would be cool such as Fast
times at ridgemont high. Those movies were huge in the 80's and early
nineties. Friday the 13 with the creepy BSD feel. I would like more
rock n roll themes too. How about a psychadelic madness machine with
tye die art package. Free love multiball anyone? Okay maybe getting

I'm not big into themes, but some that would be cool to play or would
have sold:
Reservoir dogs 10 year (soundtrack!) This could still be done with the
cartoonish figures instead of the actors (a few QT movies would fit)
Ferrari F355 challange
Sponge Bob
South Park 2 (after butters and towlie)
The Police
Led Zep (now that we know they are going to tour)

Something with good brand ID-
Caterpillar
Legos
Bourne series

Yeah and with all the spin-offs, comic books, coloring books,
toys, figures, lunch boxes, other misc. marketing ditty's of
the time - sure as heck DID seem like it was more popular!

Black Hole wasn't nearly as popular and that made it to
pinball. Yes, I understand the Columbia Pictures/Gottlieb
interest - but still.

Another movie theme that I think would have been cool was
20th Century Fox's: Planet of the Apes. Talk about nearly
unlimited enterprising potential there. You know what would
have ended up happening though... Sega would have created one
out of the new movie that featured Dirk Diggler... I mean,
Marky Mark and would have been just awful. lol

Maybe IF there's gonna be a rambo V, there's gonna be a Rambo pin?

Between Val and Kurt - I'm LMAO thinking about the
possibilities. Even some of Billy Bob's... ROTFLMAO!

Alien would have been another great theme. Always
struck me as strange that the Space Invaders pin
had that style of artwork though. Seemed like a
cheesy rip off to me. And again, if it were a modern

Yeah, the endless possibilities for Tombstone would have made for an
excellent pin. I forgot about Die Hard, but that is obvious. Maybe
because of the R rating it was steered clear of. Another one I
thought of from a movie that I personally think would have made a
great pin is Face / Off with Nic Cage and John Travolta. The action,
dialog and story would have made a good base for a pin. "I torched
*all* the evidence that proves you're you. So, like, WOW! Looks like
you're gonna be in here for...THE NEXT HUNDRED YEARS!"

1) Die Hard, the original with the tall building, (does not need to be
the latest movie)
2) Pee Wee Herman, his playhouse or his Big Adventure (Large Marge
multiball)
3) Blues Brothers
4) Monty Python, Holy Grail or Flying Circus TV
5) A-Team
6) Toy Story, the original movie
7) Disneyworld pin, visit the four theme parks with Mickey and Donald
(Epcot jackpot)
8) Sonic The Hedgehog, after all, Sega did make pinball machines
9) The Wiggles, make it a mini pin like SMB Mush World or Punchy the
Clown, with tickets
10) Vanilla Ice (Cool as Ice movie). Stick this game in a mid-80's
Gottlieb Premier cab and roll with it :)

You guys forgot about Dukes of Hazzard, Peanuts, The muppets. The

right now. Forgot just how cool that machine looks

soundtrack too. Great music from Wendy/Walter
Carlos. Once I get a new rotary optic sensor, I'll

Tron has all the makings of being a great pinball

Midway or Activision revamped Tron somewhat and
call it 2.0 now. Video game for computers and maybe
a console or two. Have never checked it out though...

I think the 2 most OBVIOUS and maybe even INEVITABLE themes now are:
- a MLB theme (maybe can be done specific to team like SE?)
- Wrestling (as said before), WWE license has been done successfully
on many video games, and would be a SUREFIRE hit with kids!!!

One I'd like to see is a Howard Stern pin. Lotta potential, but maybe
not a big market for it.

I'd also like to see a pin involving Mike Tyson. "Ear-bite" frenzy,
anybody? Tell me you wouldn't lose it hearing fuckin' Mike Tyons
QUOTES throughout the game. "My defense is impenetrable", "I'm gonna
eat your children", the list goes on forever!!

Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds

Incredible music, theme, personalities, story line,

I could design this game in my sleep. And probably
already have! lol

Could have a Martian tripod that stomps about...
sound bytes from Richard Burton & Justin Hayward...
awesome canon shot routines like ST:TNG... dual level
playfield where the lower one (like Black Hole) represents
the Brave New World, rotating observatory and cylinders,
fantastic video modes, HMS Thunderchild toy, crazy proprietary

1) Mad Max Trilogy - Williams should have grabbed this license for the
King to do after High Speed.
2) Pokemon - I can't stand it, but the kids love it, great way to
indoctrinate new blood into this sickness of ours. Guaranteed every
Cheezy Chuck would be in for one.
3) The Young Ones - One of the most hilarious things ever done on Brit
tele.

I gotta chime in with the TRON people... that would have been an
awesome machine back in the day, the blue/black color scheme always
looks cool... but the one theme I would have to buy ON SIGHT if they
made it today is Futurama... finding out that TSPP was very early on
slated to be a Futurama machine just breaks my heart, even tho I loves
my TSPP.

Always thought Mortal Kombat would have been a killer pin, and
Williams already owned the license!! Just the voice resonating
"FATALITY" would have been worth it. Tomb Raider and Aliens would
also have been excellent choices.

As far as I know there is no connection between the pinball and the
movie.

The Black Hole (1979) was a Disney film, not Columbia. And I don't
recall it doing very well.

If they did a pin of that movie, the game would never even serve up a
ball - you would hit start and the game would just cycle thru all the
special effects over and over... just like the movie does.

How about.... "The Pinball Factory!"

You try to collect all the parts necessary to produce your own pinball
machine. Unfortunately, the completion is harder to reach than
Valinor!

True, The Black Hole was a Disney movie.

I didn't do too badly at the box office at all. Back
in '79 it made 35.8 million, which would have ranked
it in about the top 25 movies of the year.

There were a few iconic figures in the movie, including
some kid-friendly robots and some known stars. There's
none of that in the pinball machine art, and the pinball
machine is called "Black Hole" while the movie was
"The Black Hole". No connection.

I agree on Muppet Show - during its prime that would have been a great
theme.

Futurama - is a no brainer, they've already done two Simpsons pins and
it would still work with the current revival. I'd buy this today.

Alice in Wonderland - there are a couple ancient EMs but a modern game
with deep rules and toys.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - would have to have been done with
the ORIGINAL movie.

The Incredibles - a much better film theme than the Summer
blockbusters that Stern has been getting.

Well, there was an attempt by Atari to make a Laser disc game from
BSG. The info can be found on Atarigames.com but its in the member-
only section. Here is a snippet from the site:

From Atarigames.com
"BATTLESTAR GALACTICA LASERDISC MOVIE

I added a short Quicktime movie of the intro to the unreleased,
prototype Laserdisk game- Battlestar Galactica. This clip shows a
short preview 'commercial' for the game. The game was not very far
into production, before it was cancelled. The disc I have, only has a
few scenes on it. If there were actually a game that you could play,
it would last about 2 minutes.

Sounds pretty neat. I'll have to check that out.

Thought of another movie/theme that would have been
really cute had it been made into a pinball...

I always thought they missed the boat on the Matrix. I can understand
why they didn't do it after the 2nd and 3rd movies didn't live up to
the first, but still a great pinball theme overall.
I imagined:
Cool green lighting effects.
Magnets to stop the balls like Neo stopping the bullets. I even
thought it would be cool to have a magnet in the drain that would
bring it back onto a flipper ala Shadow's lock as a way to demonstrate
altered reality. How cool of a ballsaver would that be?...the quote
would be "there is no spoon."
Multiple Smith multiball..."Mr. Anderson."
Freeway ramps
Phone booth ball lock.
Great sci-fi theme with cool music and a ton of possibilities for
modes and effects.
