JP or VND, depending on my mood when you ask me.

Wh20
BSD or WH2O
With the exception of STTNG, my entire collection fits in that
bucket: RFM, SWE1, Pinball Magic, Batman Forever, Cyclone, and
Getaway. I actually have a hard time telling you which "one". I
really like all of these games a lot. If forced, my rank order top 3
would be: 1) Pinball Magic, 2.) RFM, 3.) Batman Forever. Getaway
would be #4 on my list.
I'd expect the most common response to be Shadow or Wh20 --- although
I personally don't see Wh20 for sale for less than $2,000 anymore.
If anyone is selling it for that or less, I'm interested :)

I think for under 2k you could find a nice example.
Other titles are certainly attainable for 2k but harder to find in
nice condition.

I only own 1 machine, and it was under $2000, and I LOVE it! ROAD
SHOW!!! It is such a fun machine with great shots and lots to do.
People give it a lot of crap for the the theme, and I don't like
country music, but the fun and value of the machine make it TOTALLY
worth it. Call me biased :)
Honestly I would buy condition over theme as long as the play is
decent. Any of the above would be great if you can find a beautiful
and trouble free one.
Spend if one machine and only one in your home spend some more and get
STTNG.

WTB: WH2O or RFM
I'm going to sound like an echo of many others here, but my picks
would be WH2O or ST:TNG IF you can find either one under $2k...it
might be a tough find these days.
Otherwise I'd say Judge Dredd, even though it should be well under the
$2k range, it's my pick for best value in pinball. Tons of modes,
tons of interesting shots, tons of features, tons of fun.
Since you specified it would be an only game, any of these three are
plenty deep to keep you occupied on their own.
My next picks would be Jurassic Park, Demo Man, BS Dracula, and
Whirlwind. These are all super-awesome games but MIGHT get old more
quickly in a single game setting. Besides just WW, you could have
your pick of Sys11 games for well under $2k. They are pretty much all
great.
All in my humble opinion. There are lots of other great ideas in this
thread too. $2k is a nice budget and can buy some very cool
machines. The tough part is limiting it to just one!
Only had to look up 3 of these acronyms. And "DE TM" still came up
blank. (A Data East game?)
DE time machine.
TFTC
-- could find a nice example and even pocket a couple hundered bucks!
-- GREAT GAME FOR THE PRICE!
CENTAUR hands down!! I recently brokered a Centaur for about 2-k and
played it for a month straight. Never played that game back in the
day (1981.......) so it was new to me and easily places on my list of
top 10 games.
FH if you can find a decent one under $2K.
Whirlwind all day long best bang for the buck.
BK2K
Who?Dunnit
Where are you guys finding sub-$2k STTNGs and WH2Os? Ok, then, my
sub-$2k pick would be Pinball Circus.

My problem with HS2 is that it had already been done in the
original...and better at that. The original is a classic and then
some. Getaway is just too similar and lacks the "heart" for lack of a
better way to put it. I feel the same about Jackbot, but to be fair I
haven't gotten deep into the rules on either game. Also I personally
think the supercharger is a waste since there is no interaction with
it. The jump ramp on No Fear is a similar concept but much better
executed since you control it.
HS2 is a cool game on it's own if you forget about the original, but
at least for me there are much better choices in the price range.
Just my 2 cents...which is probably about all it's worth! :)
I have been very happy with my JM and I got it for under $1000. That
said, I would also recommend a Who?Dunnit, JP, Shadow, Judge Dredd, or
Batman Forever.
I got my ST:TNG for less than 2k, but it was in a sad state and took
months to sort out. I don't think that really counts as a sub-2k
title either.
HS2 was my first choice for a home pin and I held out until I found
one. Over ten years later I still have it and won't be getting rid of
it. It's a great game and also very sturdy and reliable. Defintitely
a good deal for the going prices.
I've been looking for a decent Dr. Who for years but haven't pulled
the trigger on one. It's also a good sub-$2000 title.
I agree with TFTC. Some of the suggestions are really pushing the
$2000 mark, but TFTC is an awesome game that really can be had for under
that with some looking. Picked up mine off of ebay for about a grand
plus shipping. Great game for the cash. I see them for around $1700 to
$2000. The ones on ebay usually run higher than that though. If this
is a first game I would try and make sure the game is working 100% no
matter what you get. Plenty of time to learn about fixing things a
little later.
Good Luck

I got my STTNG for $1,100 and my WH2O for $1,000. The WH2O fully
worked, and the STTNG needed a board fixed that cost $75. :)
I've had a few wms System 3-6 and one System 80... they were all great
fun and I learned a lot but I've sold off most of them (in the process
of selling the amazing spider-man). Now I'm looking for something a
little newer. That said, I like playing them more than fixing them
(especially if I'm only going to have one) so reliability is a
factor. I like Apollo 13 (there is one for sale here in TX for about
$1400) but I understand that it breaks down easily due to sensor
misalignment issues.

Why The Shadow isn't a $3k pin, I have no idea. Okay, the translight is
why. Seriously? The translight? I'm glad you guys hate it... makes an
awesome game more affordable.
A lot of great games have been mentioned, but the question was "the ONE
pin under 2k"... I'd say STTNG, but that's NOT under 2k. Same with
Funhouse (although Shadow is a lot better). The fact is, W?D, WCS,
Shadow, DW, JM, and (if you can actually find one for this price in nice
condition) WH2O are all on my list of great games under that price. But
what's the BEST? The Shadow knows.

One of the first games I bought years ago was Bram Stoker's Dracula,
and that's the only one of the bunch in the sub $2K category that I
still own. In my opinion, BSD is the best bang for the buck machine
out there. It never gets old, and i'll probably never sell it!
Actually, I did sell my first BSD, and bought another one shortly
there after. Stacking three multiballs is not an easy task, but one
you've done it, you will be coming back for more.
Good luck with your decision.
