You're going to the home of GURPS and Hero and playing AD&D?! I know that
SJ Games has regular gaming nights -- you might want to contact them --
they play games other than GURPS, but I wouldn't bet on AD&D... :^)
SJ Games' phone number is 512-447-7866, and their BBS (where you can
contact other gamers) is 512-447-4449.

Heh... yeah, well, don't knock it too soon.
I, a druid, and a magic user just managed to kill 438 vegepygmies.
(And it weren't an easy thing to do! I thought we'd get killed.)
At first we had the help of two fighters. One of 'em got killed.
The other left. Overnight, the first one got eaten cuz we didn't
know where he was (those silly fighters overestimating themselves).
We got his magic stuff after killing the others though. 8-)

Are we expected to cross-reference this to the "Munchkining" thread ourselves?
You could've saved us the effort!

I think you might get a very pleasant surprise if you abandoned your
9th level character (or at least put him on the shelf for a while), and
discover the joys of role-playing a character through the formative
stages. If you were joining my campaign I would probably require you
to start no higher than 3rd level. After all, you are not really losing
anything - you can always go back to your 9th-level cleric if you find
you can't get any fun out of the low-level stuff.
I speak from personal experience, by the way: I sometimes play in a
campaign where the characters are now 9th/10th/11th level - the DM ran
us up to 9th level in about a year because he likes running high-power
dungeons. It can be a lot of fun, but in my opinion should only be
done with experienced players - you miss out on all the opportunities
for creative character development. I still don't feel the same personal
attachment to this character that I do to characters that grew up with
me in a more leisurely fashion, and who I got to know better.
