I love Marlo Thomas, like, forever. I went out and Red Box ed the Miley
Cyrus/ Demi Moore film LOL. Marlo came out of retirement and played
Montana's ram, at 73.

Life is sweet. What a thrill to see her.

Why, I can't imagine how many of her fans saw the movie and had no clue.

I live you, Ann Marie. R.I.P., Ted Bessel.

I didn't know he was dead. It says he died in 1996, at 61, that is so
young.

Sometimes lately I watch this television station that has all kinds of
old shows. I'll sit here googling, and like all the stars in them are
dead, or like 95. Kinda melancholy, kinda depressing. I still enjoy
the Honeymooners.

Do you remember her father? I guess I was pretty young, I barely
remember Danny Thomas. But he had a sitcom too if I remember.

Make Room for Daddy, now I remember it. Wiki says it ran for 13 years
from 1953 to 1965. Wow, long time ago. I didn't even remember Angela
Cartwright was in that. Wasn't she on Lost in Space?

Yea , Paul, Donald Hollinger died. Bummer.

I Google my ass off, too, on these old schools, constantly.

His character name was Lew Marie and he was a riot. Ann's dad

MeTV is the Brazilian Nuts.

A bunch of old shows are coming off the shelf October 3rd on Me.

Paul, remember the late great Richard Crenna in Judd for the Defense?

Yea, Danny Thomas. I freak out every time I think about Rusty Hammer.
Marlo had a semi lookalike sister that was on her show.
She also plays a Chinese girl in an episode of Bonanza that was notable.
I remember Cartwright in the show, btw.

Google images Marlo Thomas + LOL.

Ok, that's what it is in Fresno too, MeTV, I've been watching it
lately.

I didn't know Richard Crenna was dead. He was in Rambo, and a lot of
different roles. I don't remember Judd for the Defence.

I just looked him up, and was reminded of Wait Until Dark, with Audrey
Hepburn, do you remember that? I was really young then.

Last night I watched Green Acres and just laughed my ass off. They
were all such idiots, just like RGP, everyone except Oliver who was
normal, and everyone around him was an idiot. That's how I feel on
RGP. And Eddie Albert, dead too. In 2005, it says he was 99? Is
that possible? Holy shit, 99.

Wow. But I mean she's gotta be, if I do the math, I was a kid when
she was 20-something, so 74 sounds about right. She was a good
looking girl. So was Mary Tyler Moore, I've been watching Dick Van
Dyke lately too.

Think about all the good looking women back then, and they didn't have
to have their boobs hanging out, and I bet Mary Tyler Moore never got
a tramp stamp tattoo. I bet she never used the word "fuck" in her
everyday vernacular either. America back then was a better place, a
better time.

We first got a TV in 1951 when I was 5, so I go way back.

I forgot one of the best of all, Amos and Andy. Amos and Andy was
originally a radio show with two white guys talking in a black accent.
When they put it on TV they used black actors who had to try and imitate a
white person imitating a black accent.

Many blacks felt that it was full of stereotypes, but I think they're
being a bit too sensitive. I always thought that the Honeymooners was a
take off on Amos and Andy with Ralph based on the Kingfish and Norton
based on Andy.

If you've never seen it, there are some complete episodes on YouTube.
Well worth a look.

When I was a kid, I got a kitten being given away out of the trunk of a car
at the grocery store.
When I named her, I thought the cat should pick it's own name.
So, I told the cat: "Okay, you meow when I hit a name you like." and started
listing off the names of actresses.
When I hit "Marlo Thomas," she meowed, so that became her name.
I know this post is kind of "Yeah, so what does that have to do with
anything?" but that's what you reminded me of.

And Paul, I know you love animals and so do I. I just wanted to say that how
fast you drive has nothing to do with how dangerous cars are to animals. If
that's a true concern, it's best to just give up driving at all, because
even a steady 30 mph is bound to take one out every now and then.

Let's be rational. Ok? We're not going to completely give up
driving. That's a given. But personally, I now drive much slower at
night when I know a little animal can dart out in front of me at any
time. By doing so, I better my chances of being able to stop or
adjust in time. On the other hand, we were talking about driving
really fast in the other thread, and that is both dangerous to
yourself and to animals. So we're both adults, and we can talk about
this calmly and rationally. But I'm right and you're wrong, so just
don't fucking do it. Case closed.

It's not that simple. On a highway, you cannot possibly go slow enough to
ensure the safety of animals.
About 50 mph is the bare minimum and they'll be just as flat at 100. There
may well be other reasons not to go 100, such as my own safety, and thanks
for that concern, but highways can and will continue to kill a lot of
animals.

</beldin-mode>

And what's wrong with giving up driving altogether? More of us should
consider doing exactly that.

I try very hard to drive carefully so as not to hurt animals. It's
devastating to me if I hit a cat, which I have before. A mouse or a
bunny, troubles me. But a cat, and I am distraught. Really messes me
up.

I don't remember Bendix doing any comedy show on TV other than Riley.
People don't look at him as a major star, but he was one of a few actors
who was successful in radio, TV and in film. He also could could play
just about any character. He did cops, criminals, cowboys, and he could
do comedy. And he played Babe Ruth.

My father listened to Riely on the radio and also when it came on TV.
When things weren't going his way he would often use the famous Chester
Riley expression, 'What a revolting development this turned out to be."

My vote for the hottest babe on early TV goes to Tusday Weld as Thalia
Mennenger on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." It was a little different

Gosh, I already knew that, but thanks. I had no intention of even opening
this post for reply, much less sending it.

Turns out my laptop's touchpad was active despite my having a wireless USB
mouse, and my inadvertent pad-touching was responsible for a bunch of other
misbehavior before I figured it out and disabled it. I apologize for any
confusion the blank post may have caused you.

<...snip unnecessary rudeness...>

If it makes you feel better, and it's only happened a couple of times, but
if I hit an animal it affects me for days. Out in the sticks where I live
it's essential that you be vigilant for deer, dogs, cats, coons, possums and
smaller, and even the odd coyote, cougar or black bear -- I rarely go a week
without one or more jumping out of the brush in front of me. I don't drive
slower than I would otherwise, but I do pay a lot more attention to what's
going on to the sides of the roads going 25 mph than I do when I'm in
Redmond/Bellevue doing 40.

Story time: once I stopped on an arterial in suburban Minneapolis, blocking
both westbound lanes, while I carried a 10-pound snapping turtle from where
I was about to flatten him over to the south side of the road, closer to the
river.

He wasn't terribly happy about it and tried really hard to take my fingers
off (I know how to handle snapping turtles), but a few people behind me
actually applauded when they saw what I was doing.

Vince, there are lots of songs using the "let you down" sort of lyrics.

Outlaw it completely because you never know when or if someone might be
offended.
Keep things the way it is where one side is just kidding and you take your
chances that the other party may overreact.
Everyone grows a thicker skin and just lets it be what it is.

I much prefer the third option. I don't like the first option because that's
no fun. I don't like the second because that's a judgment call and involves
a gray area and I detest gray areas.

For instance, I was happy when the NFL changed the push-out rule for wide
receivers. In the past, a catch without both feet in bounds was sometimes
considered good if the receiver was pushed out of bounds and if it was
judged that he would have had his feet in bounds without the push.

What?

How do you know what *would* have happened?

They changed that to: "We don't care if you get pushed or not, if you don't
get both feet in bounds, it's not a legal catch."

Similarly, Option 1 and 3 are preferable because there are no gray areas. We
all either always treat each other with complete respect (Such humor is
never acceptable.) or it is to be accepted and tolerated without exception.
(It's always acceptable with no recourse.)

See that, Paul? Clave actually has good qualities that even you can
appreciate.

I'm not saying that you have to become friends or have a kumbaya moment or
anything, but everyone on here has some redeeming quality.

I was prompted to reward Clave's departure from typical and you beat me
to it. Clave sometimes (not often, unfortunately) presents redeeming
quality ... however, most of the time ... there is no value at all in
claving. [But the story above is worthy of a serious compliment.]

There are a lot more choices than that. It's unlike you to put things in
such absolutes.

It was a bit of a temptation to escalate, but as it's so out of character
for you to just call names unprovoked, much less in *two* anklebiting posts
so close together, I have to think that there's things going on I don't
know.

It's almost as if you weren't the real author of either of those posts.

Nevertheless, it's just what Digger O"Dell would say. BTW, Digger O'Dell
is a unique NPC in Diablo 3 that spawns in the Defiled Crypt in Act 1.
Evidently, someone in the game design team was a "Life of Riley" fan.

Actually, there are an infinitude of choices. The absolutes are the first
and third choice. All the other choices actually fall into the second choice
in some manner where we introduce a gray area. (Representing options like:
"It's okay unless you do X." Where the line between X and !X lies can never
be agreed on by 100% of people.)

I wasn't trying to get to you. I took a chance that you'd realize I was
poking fun at the entire "let's hate on Beldin and Clave" mentality that
exists among some members of this newsgroup. (Apparently because their
acceptance in a clique that demands it is important to them.) I don't hate
either of you guys. I never will assuming you both stay your course and
don't yourselves suddenly morph into a detestable figure. Sure, I think both
you guys could do things differently, but those are your choices.

Your post here shows that you have at least one clue, but Paul's too mad at
you to grant that.

Morph into detestable figures? Oh gosh, we wouldn't want that.

They're far from my favorite posters, but they're far from my least
favorite, too.

They both suffer from "I just can't stop myself from one more post."-itis,
but who here doesn't?

I skipped this thread because, well, Marlo never did anything for me.

That said, I agree with Tad.

I've hit a deer on the highway, and it sucks, but I was obeying the law and
driving slower would have made me more likely to cause an accident with
another driver

Okay, pepe, you don't suffer from that.

But you do suffer from: "Take one day off per month to post followups to
every post made over the last month, wait a month and repeat."-itis.

Which, in a way, amounts to having to have the last word, because eventually
you're the only person responding to the threads that no one will be going
back to.
